Established homes on roomy lots

South Ogden has well-maintained and renovated homes as opposed to new constructions. The median price for a single-family home is $430,000 — slightly higher than the national median — but home can cost as much as $875,000. New windows and carpet are common updates among ramblers and ranch-style homes from the mid-1900s to the early 2000s. These homes are tightly tucked between next-door neighbors; yards stretch toward the sidewalk or back fence, but buyers can still count on finding quarter-acre lots. Mature trees also provide a natural source of privacy in South Ogden’s long-established subdivisions. Homes in eastern subdivisions, closer to the Wasatch Front, often have unobstructed views of snowcaps and greenery. Townhomes come with two-car garages and back patios sectioned off by divers. Homeowner’s associations also provide pools and clubhouses. The median townhouse price is $455,000.

Hiking and skiing on the Wasatch Range

Burch Park has eight pickleball courts and a giant playground. From tunnels and rock walls to rope ladders and climbing towers, kids can easily spend a few hours running around here. Utah is known to reach triple digits during the summer, so locals cool off at the Nature Park splash pad. Residents seeking an exclusive experience can explore memberships at the Ogden Golf and Country Club. The Wasatch Range is well known for its snowy slops and ski resorts, including Snowbasin Resort, which was the site of the 2002 Winter Olympics. There's an abundance of hiking in the area, too, like Beus Canyon Trailhead and Burch Creek Trailhead. Waterfall Canyon, about 4 miles away, offers a more strenuous trek but rewards hikers with views of cascading waterfalls.

South Ogden has grocery stores and restaurants

South Ogden has grocery stores like Walmart and Fresh Market, a Utah chain. Maria’s Mexican Restaurant is run by a family who moved to the U.S. from San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The owners grew up cooking and worked in several restaurants before opening Maria’s. Patrons can create their own confections at Mountain Donuts and choose from various kinds of glazes, toppings and drizzles. Gluten-free and vegan options are also available. Riverdale has more retail shopping and big-box stores about 4 miles away.

South Ogden Days

A pickleball tournament and family night usher in the two-day annual South Ogden Days. The second day of this summer festival is jam-packed from early morning to late at night, starting with the parade. Vintage vehicles are on display at the Ogden Midnight Runners Car Show. A concert and fireworks display cap off the event.

Salt Lake City is less than 35 miles away

Major thoroughfares include U.S. Route 89, Interstate 84 and I-15. Salt Lake City and Salt Lake City International Airport are both less than 35 miles away. Hill Air Force Base is about 10 miles southwest. The prestigious McKay-Dee Hospital is a Level II Trauma Center only a mile away and ranks as an IBM Watson Top 100 Hospital. Residents can take a UTA train from Ogden to Provo, but the area is mostly car-dependent.
