A sunny suburb in northern Sparks
Within the northern suburbs of Sparks, Nevada, the Los Altos Parkway and Vista Boulevard enclose a neighborhood packed with sunny streetscapes, verdant front lawns and recently built houses. Realtor Eric Gonzales of RE/MAX Gold says, “It’s a combo of urban and suburban. It’s quiet, but there are things to do, like good food and shopping.” This community, which takes its name from the parkway, maintains a quiet and peaceful character while situating residents close to major shopping centers, parks and transportation routes.

Golf courses and parks by the parkway
Los Altos Parkway is aptly named, as the road runs past several green spaces where the community comes together for outdoor recreation. Canyon Hills Park is home to a wooden, castle-themed playground for kids to enjoy, while Disc Park’s open field is often utilized for games of soccer. At the heart of the neighborhood, Bud Beasley Elementary School’s Maldonado Park not only contains a playground, but also several soccer fields and a baseball diamond. Golf lovers can trek into neighboring communities to play at the D’Andrea Golf Club or the Kiley Ranch Golf Course, where visitors can grab a slice of pizza at the club’s bar after an 18-hole game.

Los Altos Parkway is surrounded by shopping conveniences, from small strip malls to major retail hubs. The Spanish Springs Center, closest to the neighborhood, includes a Grocery Outlet supermarket, making for quick and easy food runs. At the western end of Los Altos Parkway, the Sparks Crossing, Spanish Springs Town Center and Sparks Galleria Shopping Center form a retail megalopolis where a Sprouts Farmers Market, Costco and Walmart add to residents’ grocery options. Retail giants like Home Depot and Best Buy are also scattered throughout these complexes, as are popular restaurant chains. Foodies might enjoy feasting on pizza and pasta at the family-owned Pinocchio’s Bar & Grill across the street from the Spanish Springs Center, while morning commuters can start their day with a cup of joe from the local Lighthouse Coffee.

Larger homes found in the desert
Los Altos Parkway’s streetscapes consist of winding, hillside roads, each of which are flanked by sidewalks, green front yards and homes built from the 1990s to the 2020s. Development is still ongoing, with several lots being listed on the market for between $155,000 and $220,000. Los Altos Parkway’s existing stock varies greatly, from townhouses and ranch-style homes to new-traditional residences and custom builds. Homebuyers can spend as little as $330,000 for a 2-bedroom townhouse to as much as $1.25 million for custom-built, hilltop home with panoramic views of the city lights. Gonzales says, “It’s got good bang for your buck, especially when compared to south Reno.” Wide roads and a lack of through-streets keep Los Altos Parkway insulated from the noise of the nearby parkway, preserving this neighborhood’s tranquil character.
