Beloved community with historic charm

Browne's Addition is one of Spokane's oldest neighborhoods. The historic enclave, often referred to simply as “Browne’s,” was initially built as a suburb for the city's wealthiest residents. Decorative late 19th-century houses, a beloved green space and proximity to many of the city center's amenities contribute to the neighborhood's charm. “It’s definitely one of the most architecturally diverse neighborhoods in town,” says Spokane native Mike Bass, managing broker of Century 21 Beutler & Associates. “You have historical homes, contemporary homes, condos, plus some lovely old mansions around Coeur d’Alene Park, which basically serves as the heart of the neighborhood.”

Victorians, midcentury moderns and condos offer housing diversity

Located just west of downtown Spokane, the history-rich streets of this residential neighborhood are lined with trees as old as the city itself. Homes here are set back on manicured yards, offering plenty of private front and backyard space. The local housing market features a diverse array of styles, including ornate Victorians built before the turn of the 19th century, midcentury Arts and Crafts bungalows and spacious Tudor Revival homes. The Patsy Clark Mansion, a Mediterranean-inspired estate built for one of the city's wealthiest founders, exemplifies the neighborhood's historic character. More modern condos in the area cost around $200,000 to $350,000, while townhouses cost $350,000 to $500,000. The average Craftsman bungalow costs around $450,000 to $600,000, while maintained Victorians can cost between $700,000 and $1 million.

Coeur d'Alene Park and Spokane Farmers Market keep residents culturally fulfilled

Home to one of the city's most beloved outdoor spaces, Coeur d'Alene Park, the community is a favorite for outdoor activities. The park is shaded with towering cedar trees and lined with paved walking paths and picnic benches. Visitors can enjoy the play area or splash pad, play pickleball, or have a barbecue on the picnic-perfect lawns. On Saturdays from May to September, the Spokane Farmers Market offers seasonal produce, live music and artisan crafts. Pet owners can take their pups to Browne's Addition Dog Park, a small off-leash area ideal for letting furry friends run free. When it's snowy out but exercise is desired, head two miles north to the Central Spokane YMCA.

Pacific Avenue and Cannon Street houses locally owned eateries, museums and shops

The charming neighborhood center at Pacific Avenue and Cannon Street hosts a handful of highly-rated restaurants, such as The Elk, a former pharmacy turned trendy restaurant. For date nights, the fancy bistro Italia Trattoria provides a sophisticated atmosphere; three blocks away, Bijou, an intimate cocktail bar, is perfect for a nightcap. While shopping options in the neighborhood itself are limited, Browne’s Addition does have its own Rosauers supermarket, and residents are less than two miles away from the shops of Downtown Spokane, including River Park Square Mall.
