On the outskirts of Greensboro and into the rural suburbs of Burlington is a peaceful and centrally located neighborhood. Sandwiched between Highway 70 and Interstate 40, Whitsett provides quick access to major highways allowing residents a short drive to Greensboro and Winston-Salem.

While bigger cities are close by, many enjoy the slow-paced nature that Whitsett has to offer. The suburb is tucked into a quieter area and is in proximity to a variety of shopping and parks. This has attracted more homebuyers, leading to the recent growth of the area.

“Greensboro is expanding east,” says Real Estate Broker Amy Sears. “Whitsett and other areas of Guilford County are really beginning to show a promise of growth as it expands.”

Several 21st century subdivisions have been constructed in the area to accommodate for the area’s recent growth. This includes the likes of Carson Farms and Springwood at the Park – two large subdivisions in the area. Most homes in these subdivisions are two-stories tall and occupy spacious plots of land typically over a quarter-acre in size.

Throughout these subdivisions are a variety of smaller, single-story homes as well. Many of which adorned with garages and fenced-in backyards. For more housing options, the area is home to several luxury townhomes.

Houses a part of these subdivisions are usually within the $300,000 to $500,000 price range. The larger and more recently built homes tend to fall toward the more expensive end of that scale.

While suburb living is common in Whitsett, another huge draw to the area its large plots of land. Homes that sit on these plots vary in style, yet a common theme is seclusion from neighbors on multiple acres. Many of these homes are from the early 20th century, sometimes as early as 1904. These include classic farmhouses and traditional ranchers.

Conveniently located within Whitsett, and just across the street for many residents is Burlington-Springwood Park. Spanning nearly 80-acres, the park is a popular spot for community gatherings. The park features several athletic fields that host sporting events from differing levels of competition, such as local leagues as well as regional and national events. The area is also home to two concession stands so you can grab your favorite snack before watching a game.

Just over two miles south of Whitsett is Guilford Mackintosh Park and Marina. The park covers over 1,500 acres and is a local favorite due to its waterside views and various activities. Many choose to rent a kayak and explore Lake Mackintosh while others play a game of volleyball on the provided sand court. The park also provides access to the Guilford Mackintosh Trail. The trail meanders through the park and follows the shoreline of the bordering lake.

Just under four miles east is a shopper’s retreat. Both University Commons and Alamance Crossing have a variety of popular retail spots that will make for the perfect shopping day. Alamance Crossing is a large shopping mall with several well-known spots to explore. University Commons is home to a Target and a T.J. Maxx.

Many Whitsett residents head across Interstate 40 to enjoy a lager at Red Oak Brewery. The brewery is America’s largest lager-only craft brewery and welcomes all adults 21+ to enjoy their lengthy list of lagers. The Bier Garten also hosts tours of their facility that end with a tasting of their lagers in the taproom.

For grocery essentials, many Whitsett residents head east to the Lowes Foods of Burlington.
