Road warriors across the country count Stroud as an essential stop on trips down the highway, but this humble roadside town has a friendly community of locals and an easygoing pace that makes it an ideal choice for fans of simple living. “There are small-town vibes here for sure,” says Kimberlie Weldy, a Realtor with Premier Realty LLC. Cruise down Main Street for shopping and dining
As a roadside town blooming from what John Steinbeck dubbed "the Mother Road," most of Stroud’s dining and shopping hot spots can be found on Main Street, the town’s stretch of Route 66. “The Rock Café is a big deal around here,” Weldy says. The diner offers buffalo burgers, German spaetzle and more in a nostalgic setting. It's also been featured on the Food Network and was a key stop for Pixar’s filmmaking team during the production of the “Cars” movies. Other local dining favorites include D’s Specialty House for buffet-style comfort food and Ruby’s for cocktails and modern American fare. The Treasure Box provides a variety of shopping options from local vendors, including bath products, clothing, tumblers and trading cards. Less than a mile west of the downtown area, Williams Foods offers groceries, with Dollar Tree and Family Dollar locations close by for other everyday needs.
