Homes and commerce in the heart of Sun Prairie
Sun Prairie’s motto, “Revolves Around You,” encourages residents of Madison’s largest suburb to think of themselves as the center of the community they’re creating. Nowhere is this sentiment more keenly illustrated than in Central Sun Prairie. The neighborhood beats in the heart of the city, a mixture of residential streets and commerce occupying a wedge of land between U.S. Route 151 and Main Street. “You have access to the new and old downtown and Route 151,” says Michael Schuster, Realtor with Re/Max. “The traditional downtown of Sun Prairie would be towards Main Street, and the new section would be that big commercial strip on the other end of town.”
Local shopping and dining in both old and new downtown areas
Within the neighborhood, Daly’s Bar and Grill has a hopping weekend scene. “They have a good fish fry on Fridays. It’s a bar, but really more of a restaurant,” Schuster says. Next door is Country Café, a diner-style spot serving up comfort food at breakfast and lunch. The most convenient grocery option is Fresh Mart on the northern side of Windsor Street. As Schuster points out, folks who live in Central Sun Prairie are midway between what locals call the “old” and “new” downtown areas. Brewpubs, coffee shops, salons and clothing stores line up along Main Street in the old downtown area, while big-box chains like Menards and Walmart can be found off of Route 151 toward Madison.

A stone’s throw from Sheehan Park
Davison Park, a shaded patch of green space with a small playground, is the only park in the neighborhood. However, the city’s largest park is a stone’s throw from many homes. Sprawling across nearly 140 acres, Sheehan Park offers scenic cross-country skiing trails and gently sloping hills ideal for sledding. Hiking and biking paths lead through wooded areas and open fields that blossom with wildflowers in summer. Other amenities include basketball and volleyball courts, soccer and baseball fields and a skate park.
The skate park at Sheehan Park is great for scooters bikes or skate boards.
