Residential homes in Eastside

“This is an area that’s in transition, and home prices have risen pretty dramatically in the last five years,” says John Hurlbut, Realtor at Keller Williams Realty with 21 years of experience. Home prices are may be between $250,000 to $450,000 for cottages, Craftsman bungalows and ranch styles. Two-story bi-levels, Colonial Revivals and New Traditionals with attached garages are often around $450,000 to $700,000. Properties were built throughout the 20th century, and recent constructions within the last decade are also plentiful in Eastside. The streets are straight and gridded, and yards, which are sometimes accompanied by fences, are usually between 2,000 and 5,000 square feet. Two-bedroom condos from the 2000s may list for $300,000 to $400,000, and fourplexes can go slightly over $1 million.

Recreation at Tacoma's city parks

Encompassing 372 acres of forestland, Swan Creek Park has trails for walking and mountain biking and a community garden while also serving as a popular birding destination. Residents may also take their dogs to the onsite dog park for playtime, and plan for alfresco gatherings at the picnic areas. Children can play at McKinley Park’s new playground and equipment, and locals can also walk through the 26 acres of evergreen-lined trails that meander around the park's streams, wetlands and ponds. Residents may venture to Cloverdale Park for tennis matches and basketball games, or check out the skate park and the outdoor swimming pool at Stewart Heights Park. In the summer, spend a day blueberry picking at Charlotte's Blueberry Park, which is home to the former Berg’s Blueberry Farm and features 3,372 bushes of blueberry. Picking is free and first-come-first-serve. Portland Avenue Park is soon to undergo updates and improvements to better serve the community. Approximately 4 miles up north, several docks, including Foss Harbor Marina are located along Thea Foss Waterway, with boat rentals and equipment for kayaking and boating.

Family-run restaurants in Tacoma

Eastside is also known as an international district, with diverse shops and restaurants throughout the neighborhood. Anglea’s Restaurant was owned by the local Fraizer family since 1947, which is now owned by the Maycumber family, and is renowned for its fried chicken with the secret “Jo sauce.” Dusty's Hideaway is a staple burger joint in the neighborhood, while Lux Perpetua Coffee is known for its expresses, pastries and a store dog that greets people at the door. Family-owned Vien Dong is popular for a crispy banh mi sandwich or a steaming bowl of beef pho. Other neighborhood fixtures include Stanley and Seaforth's, a Tacoma staple for dinner with a view. This upscale bistro serves steakhouse classics and fresh seafood in a spacious setting, offering views of Downtown Tacoma and Commencement Bay. For a sweet ending to the day, stop by the family-run Helen's Donuts and Ice Cream, and try pairing a crispy donut with a scoop of ice cream. Grocery options include Country Boy 76 Market and Safeway, with Target and Walmart about 5 miles north of the neighborhood. Tacoma Mall is located several miles to the west with over 100 retailers.

Events in Tacoma

Navigating into Seattle
