Quiet neighborhood by the bay

Ballast Point hugs the shores of Hillsborough Bay and is a popular destination for boat and yacht owners. The residential community is just north of MacDill Air Force Base and appeals to those seeking waterfront amenities. "Whether you're a member of the exclusive yacht club or not, the pier and park next to it are public. And it's the best place to take in a postcard view of Downtown Tampa," says Greg Margliano, the Principal and Founding Agent and Realtor at Compass, who's been selling in the area for over 20 years. "With large oak trees, so it feels like you're way out in the suburbs, but you're only about 6 minutes from Downtown and 15 minutes from the huge Westshore and International malls." Ballast Point earns a 2 out of 10 on the CAP Index crime score, compared to the national average of 4.

Fishing and boating from Ballast Point Park

Ballast Point Park sits next to Hillsborough Bay and is one of the neighborhood's major draws. "It has picturesque views and is a great place to take a memorable photo," says Lawrence Hollyfield, the communications coordinator with Tampa Parks and Recreation. Visitors head to the pier for fishing and views of the water with the Downtown Tampa skyline in the background. In addition to water activities, the park has several pavilions, gazebos and a playground. Bikers and runners enjoy the pathway along Bayshore Boulevard. At 4.5 miles, it is the longest continuous sidewalk in the world. "You can go for a run up along Bayshore, around the bay and just enjoy the spectacular views," says Hollyfield.
