Historic neighborhood just south of downtown Tampa
Along the shores of Hillsborough Bay, Hyde Park embraces a fusion of traditional and contemporary design in everything from its architecture to its roadways. Asphalt gives way to 100-year-old brick streets, where a canopy of towering southern oaks and palm trees shade traditional bungalows. “Hyde Park is one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in the Tampa Bay area,” says Jillian Jamison, a Realtor with the Jamison Team at Real Broker LLC who has been selling homes in the area for over 13 years. “It truly is the perfect blend of city living and a neighborhood setting.” Less than a mile south of downtown Tampa, the community offers classic single-family homes alongside shorefront condos, upscale shopping centers and ample green spaces.
Open-air shopping center with local favorites
Hyde Park Village features six city blocks of shopping, dining and entertainment among the neighborhood’s brick walkways. “Hyde Park Village is the epicenter of this area,” Jamison says. Name-brand stores, including Pottery Barn and Sephora, sit alongside local boutiques, such as Albisia Jewelry and Sunni Spencer. At Bartaco, locals sit atop barstools and in wood-paneled booths while enjoying street-style food, and the upscale Italian steakhouse Timpano serves candlelit dinners in cozy booths. For an elevated movie experience, CinéBistro offers in-theatre dining during movie screenings. Hyde Park is also located along South Howard Avenue, more commonly known as SoHo, where cocktail bars like Ciro’s Tampa provide a place for neighbors to gather long after sundown. “It’s basically like a restaurant row,” Jamison says. “There are a ton of local restaurants and nightlife here.” For the necessities, residents are about a mile from Publix.

A mix of traditional homes and modern condos
As one of Tampa’s oldest neighborhoods, Hyde Park boasts an eclectic collection of architectural styles. Colorful Craftsman bungalows dating back to the early 20th century line its charming residential streets. “The area is known for its historic homes,” Jamison says. Homebuyers can find three-to five-bedroom bungalows with spacious front porches for about $1.2 to $4.5 million, with the price increasing with the size of the home. High-rise condos line the waterfront along Bayshore Boulevard, where prices range from around $425,000 for a one-bedroom unit and up to $7.5 million for a penthouse in the modern Hyde Park House. “This is one of the most expensive streets in Hyde Park,” Jamison says.

Embrace shorefront living in Hyde Park
As its name suggests, Hyde Park is home to several green spaces where locals gather year-round, thanks to Tampa’s subtropical climate. Walkers, runners and bikers alike frequent the Bayshore Boulevard Greenway, one of the longest continuous sidewalks in the country. The 10-foot-wide pathway stretches over 4.5 miles along Tampa Bay, offering views of the water and the downtown Tampa skyline. The Kate Jackson Community Center includes the Anderson Playground, which has a shaded playground, two basketball courts and a splash ground for kids to explore.

The open-air farmers market features 80 vendors selling everything from fresh produce to handcrafted goods, and residents can shop local while enjoying live music. Over on Bayshore Boulevard, the Gasparilla Pirate Fest marches through the neighborhood each January. The festivities honor the legend of Tampa’s pirate invasions with a parade, live musical performances and historical reenactments.
Top-rated schools in Hillsborough County
Children in Hyde Park begin their education at Gorrie Elementary School before moving on to Wilson Middle School, with both schools earning an A-minus from Niche. Teens attend the nearby Plant High School, which earned an A-plus and offers a Junior ROTC program designed to educate students about American citizenship while preparing them for future leadership roles. The neighborhood is also less than a mile south of the University of Tampa, a private college with an expansive urban campus.

Hyde Park is about a mile south of downtown Tampa. With the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway and the Bayshore Boulevard Greenway minutes away, residents can drive, bike or even walk to the city center. “Most people are driving, but due to its proximity to downtown, it's not uncommon to see people biking to get around,” Jamison says. For longer trips, Peter O. Knight Airport is less than 3 miles away.
