Community alongside Sabino Creek with expansive views
Bear Canyon Hills spans the rocky soil east of Sabino Creek, where cacti, palm trees and velvet mesquite trees dot properties. The Santa Catalina Mountains form a distinct backdrop and provide many outdoor opportunities. “Going more east from Tucson, you get out of that big university town feel and get more people who like hiking, biking and a more desert feel; it’s a slower lifestyle there,” says Jacqueline Canett, a realtor with RE/MAX Results, licensed since March 2023. The absence of streetlamps and major roads contributes to this remote feeling, though the neighborhood is just a 5-mile drive from more commercialized areas.
Bear Canyon Hills has the luxury of scenic views while being minutes from big city amenities.

Trails through Sabino Canyon and indoor fitness
The nearby Sabino Canyon Recreation Area has over 30 miles of trail, including Bear Canyon Trail which is accessible from a trailhead just north of the neighborhood. “If you go up to Sabino Canyon, you’re going to see wildlife. You’ll be walking, and there’s a coyote or lizards, which funny enough, a lot of people who are not from here are like, ‘Wow, look at that lizard,’ and it’s just a lizard,” Canett says. The parks department suggests reserving hiking for when the Sabino Creek and other water sources are flowing; when water dries up in the summer, temperatures frequently top 100 degrees, resulting in more strenuous hikes. Nearby, McDonald Park has multiple baseball fields, a shade-covered playground and a paved loop path. Fitness studios are in nearby shopping centers, including CrossFit Fixx gym and the BLOC climbing + fitness facility for bouldering and yoga.
Bear Canyon Hills offers solitude and some of Tucson's most coveted views.

Pueblo Revival properties with a mountain backdrop
Pueblo Revival and burnt adobe brick-covered homes dot the flat, desert landscape. Properties built from the 1960s through the early 2000s sell between about $410,000 and $780,000, with some newer homes listing in the $800,000s. “Homes vary in Bear Canyon; you can see older, remodeled homes but you definitely don’t see Mediterranean or Tucson. You usually get more southwestern and Territorial homes,” Canett says. Driveways, both paved and unpaved, lead to attached garages on most homes. With proximity to the natural beauty of the foothills comes an increased risk of wildfires, with desert shrubbery acting as natural kindling in a warm, dry climate. The Rural/Metro Fire Station 73 is less than 10 miles from the neighborhood if there were an emergency.

There are also some local favorites nearby including Street Taco & Beer Co. and Tandem American Eatery with a full bar and a 20-seat bar-top area.
