A Boston suburb with a country feeling
In East Taunton, there is less of a commercial presence than in neighboring Taunton. Instead, many small farms and stables are scattered throughout homes sitting on spacious lots. “It’s much more rural and desirable for people who like more of the country feel versus the city feel,” says Debbie Edwards, a real estate agent with Jack Conway & Co., Bordered by the Fall River Expressway and the Alfred M Bessette Memorial Highway, East Taunton residents aren’t far from Taunton’s city center. For now, driving is the quickest option to Boston, with an hour or so commute. However, East Taunton commuter rail service is expected to begin operation in 2025. The neighborhood has its own police precinct and fire station. The neighborhood’s CAP Index crime score is 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.
East Taunton has no shortage of large properties with big yard spaces for energetic kids.
Historic Colonials and Cape Cod styles
In a town steeped in history, some of East Taunton’s Colonial-style homes date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. If homebuyers are looking for something a bit more modern, they can find ranch and raised ranch-styles built in the early 2000s. Cape Cods are also a popular style. “There are a couple of subdivisions that are around 20 years old, not a lot of brand-new construction,” Edwards says. Lot sizes tend to be generous, and houses sit further apart than other neighborhoods in Taunton. Single-family homes start at $324,000 and go as high as $726,000. There are a few duplexes and other multi-family homes priced between $483,000 to $675,000. Condos and townhouses with two to three bedrooms range from $239,500 to $380,000.
Just a 10 minute drive from East Taunton is Union Straw, a modern pub with great atmosphere.
Fresh Kyler's Seafood at Star Drive-In
East Taunton has a handful of eateries. Tomato & Basil is a family-owned and operated Italian restaurant best known for its pizza. At Kev’s Ice Cream, residents can walk up to the counter and order a cone or something more extravagant like a seasonal Apple Pie Frappe. On the other side of the Fall River Expressway, Taunton Depot has department stores like Target and Kohl's, as well as restaurant chains, including Smokey Bones barbeque and Mediterranean Bar and Grill. Trucchi’s Supermarket is just up the road from the shopping center. For a retro night of fun, the Star Drive-In shows outdoor film screenings from June to the end of September. However, they serve food year-round. Their menu includes fresh lobster and clam cakes, burgers and other American classics. “I’m driving past the drive-in right now, and there are probably 20 cars out there,” Edwards says. “The big thing is that they have Kyler's Seafood, which is a fresh seafood market out of New Bedford. Star Drive-In also has ice cream, but it’s not as popular as the seafood.”
East Taunton's connection to it's colonial history is on grand display at the Old Colony Museum.
Celebrating Art in Downtown Taunton
Most of the area's big annual events take place in City Center. Old Colony Museum hosts Liberty & Union Day. The tradition celebrates Taunton's role as the first American colony to raise a flag against British rule. Downtown Art Jam takes over Taunton Green and other Main Street spots for one summer day. The festival encourages people to celebrate art in its many forms, from live performances and demonstrations to fashion and film.

Cranberry bog views at Massasoit State Park
When Barstow’s Pond had its dam removed in 2015, it opened miles of water for native species, including red herring and American eels. The pond is a part of the Cotley River, a tributary of the Taunton River that borders a portion of the neighborhood. East Taunton is next to Massasoit State Park. There are six lakes and ponds, with Lake Rico serving as a launch for non-motorized boats. With over 1,200 acres, visitors can explore the park’s trails via hiking, biking or even cross-country skiing in the winter. Whether camping overnight or visiting for a few hours, the water and cranberry bogs provide scenic views. The neighborhood also has a few small fields for youth soccer and little league baseball.
Opening soon in spring of 2025 is East Taunton's connection to the MBTA.
Middleborough/Lakeville line extending to East Taunton
Depending on traffic, the drive to Boston via the Fall River Expressway can take just under or over an hour. While East Taunton doesn’t currently have its own commuter rail access, the south coast rail project will extend the Middleborough/Lakeville line to connect from Boston to Taunton. Service from the East Taunton Station is expected to begin by spring 2025. The Greater Attleboro and Taunton Regional Transit Authority runs buses through East Taunton to the rest of the city and surrounding areas. While the Taunton Municipal Airport sits in East Taunton, it isn’t open for commercial use. Travelers are more likely to drive an hour or so to Boston Logan International Airport.
