Terrace Park has community events

About 15 miles east of Cincinnati is Terrace Park, a suburb with unique homes and a community feel. “We have events every month,” says Amy Hacket Roe of Coldwell Banker Realty, and 14 years of real estate experience in the area. “There’s the annual lighting of the green, Easter egg hunts and the Historical Society is always having events and fundraisers.” The neighborhood has some of the strongest schools in the state, and Hacket Roe cites that as a major reason many clients move to the area. There is a mix of new construction for those who want modern builds and houses from the turn of the century. The residents like to stay active, and it’s easy with hiking trails and proximity to parks and the Little Miami River. The area has the feeling of being on vacation as it’s golfcart friendly.

No cookie-cutter housing

The median price for a single-family home in Terrace Park is nearly $720,000. There is a great variety of housing styles, from ranch-style builds to Colonials to large Victorian homes. “There’s nothing cookie-cutter about the homes,” says Hackett Roe. “I live in a home from 1890, but there is new construction happening all the time.” Houses tend to sit on quiet streets with only residential traffic. The roads often end in private cul-de-sacs, and houses have driveways and garages for parking. Homes are on large lots with well-maintained, large green yards. Mature trees provide shade and privacy. There are not many sidewalks in the area, so joggers and dog walkers need to be aware of traffic.

Mariemont City Schools shine

Kids attend Mariemont City Schools, a small district but one of the strongest in the state. The first stop is Terrace Park Elementary School, before trips to Mariemont Junior High and Mariemont High School. All three schools received perfect A-plus grades from Niche. Mariemont Junior High and Terrace Park Elementary were ranked by Niche as the No. 2 and No. 11 public schools in all of Ohio, respectively, while Mariemont High was rated as having the fourth-best teachers of any high school in the state.

Golf, tennis and swimming in Terrace Park

Terrace Park features Stanton Field, which is an open green space where locals can toss a frisbee or lay down a blanket for a picnic. The Miami Grove Nature Preserve provides miles of hiking in densely forested areas, while Kroger Hills State Reserve has trails for hiking and biking. Kids can visit the Terrace Park Swim and Tennis Club for fun in the sun during the warm summer months. The club offers a swim team and swimming and tennis lessons. Golfers frequent the Terrace Park Country Club, which features an 18-hole championship course.

The Birch has good eats

For a quiet dinner, locals can head to The Birch, an old home converted into a restaurant. The Birch features live music on the patio and has an attached wine shop. Another local favorite is Covalt Station, which offers upscale food in a fun atmosphere. The funky décor and the rustic setting give Covalt Station a unique feel. Golden State is a casual Mexican joint with open-air seating. This converted garage is where locals head for tacos and signature cocktails. For a cold brew with a nice view, Little Miami Brewing Company has plenty of beers on tap and seating overlooking the Little Miami River. Shoppers can head to Harvest Market or Lehr’s Market, two gourmet grocery stores located on Main Street. Further up Main is a Kroger location for a more stocking up on essentials. For retail shopping, there are a variety of shopping centers located in nearby Kenwood and Clermont.

The houses here are diverse and charming. Not many suburban ugly giants to be found here.
