The Village is an enclave city situated close to the banks of Lake Hefner, bordered on all sides by OKC and Nichols Hills. The independent city was incorporated in 1959, just nine years after being incorporated as a town. Fears over annexation by nearby metropolises of the time led to residents pursuing incorporation so quickly. Since the early 20th century, with The Village’s earliest housing boom, residents have loved its suburban atmosphere and fought hard to preserve it. Today, residents of The Village enjoy easy access to the conveniences of nearby Nichols Hills and Oklahoma’s capital city without sacrificing the area’s small-town vibe.
Brick ranches and contemporary builds
You’ll find modern homes in The Village. Red brick ranches line the city’s central residential streets, with the occasional smaller Minimal Traditional or angular Contemporary home making an appearance. Like the surrounding city’s neighborhoods, The Village developers took advantage of the space provided by the Oklahoma prairie to build sprawling single-story homes set on wide lots with broad front lawns. Home prices vary widely throughout The Village, typically ranging anywhere from $100,000 to $500,000, with the median cost falling around the $225,000 mark.
Learning through the Oklahoma City Public Schools system
Students in The Village are served by the Oklahoma City Public Schools system. Ridgeview and Johnson Elementaries, two public OKCPS schools, are both within a mile or two of most of The Village. Hupfeld Academy, a public charter school in the OKCPS district at the northeastern corner of The Village, is the first charter school in the state to serve students in its own neighborhood. At the corner of Britton Road and Pennsylvania Avenue, the private, faith based Casady School campus circles Casady Lake. Casady School has grown from 36 students attending classes in a remodeled pony stable to nearly 1000 students from across The Village and OKC attending classes spread out over the school’s 80-acre campus.
Swimming and enjoying Lake Hefner
To the west of The Village, across Lake Hefner Parkway, the lake itself is popular with active residents year-round. While you’re not allowed to swim in the man-made lake, you are allowed to do practically every other kind of water-based activity, from paddleboarding and kayaking to sailing and fishing. Scenic paved trails encircling the waterfront are perfect for dryland activities as well. Residents from all over The Village, Nichols Hills and OKC visit the trails to ride their bikes, try out their rollerblading skills or just take a leisurely stroll along the lake. Picnic shelters and benches spaced along the paths make for great spots to rest and enjoy a snack while taking in the OKC skyline from over the sparkling lake.
There’s no shortage of playgrounds for The Village kids either. Between Harrison, Johnson, Bumpass, and Meeker Parks, you’re never more than a couple of miles from an expansive, sunny playground. All four parks feature climbing structures, slides and swings spread out over grassy fields, with benches and picnic tables spaced along their perimeters.
Shopping in Casady Square
Casady Square, at the intersection of Britton and Pennsylvania near the southeastern corner of The Village, has been the city’s prime shopping center since the 60’s. Many residents head down North May Avenue, on The Village’s west side, for a wide selection of restaurant options, from local gems to favorite chains. Villagers are close to the upscale shopping in Nichols Hills Plaza too, just under three miles south.
An Oklahoma native, Brandon grew up in the Southwest part of the state in Lawton. After high school, Brandon attended the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond on a baseball scholarship and majored in Business. He quickly fell in love with the fast-paced growth of the OKC/Metro area and decided to make it his permanent residence. During his junior year of college, he applied for an internship for an extraordinarily successful Xerox agency where he had the opportunity to have wonderful mentors that taught him the business and value of client relationships. After two years, he then decided to follow his lifelong passion for real estate and joined his wife, Lindsey who was currently a Real Estate Agent for Keller Williams. Brandon learned his trade at Keller Williams where he quickly became a multi-million-dollar producer. Recognizing that the future of real estate lies in the team approach, he formed The Hart Home Selling Team in 2003, and never looked back. Brandon received the prestigious Rookie of the year award for the region in 2005 and has received the Top Group Awards in both unit sales and GCI year after year. Brandon is enthusiastic about providing his team with the support that is needed to ALWAYS continue to be successful. The Hart Home Selling Team is a family with their main priority being their valued clients. He feels fortunate that many of his clients have become dear friends. Brandon and his wife Lindsey, who is now focused on her own property and casualty insurance business, now reside in the small community of Nichols Hills.
