About Thompsonville, CT

A growing Connecticut town with a convenient location

Wedged just south of the Massachusetts-Connecticut state line less than 10 miles from Springfield, Thompsonville has historically drawn in residents for its convenient location between Springfield and Hartford. Today, the suburban town is dedicated to breathing new life into its infrastructure, from parks and shopping centers to its riverfront. “Thompsonville is an older part of town, but it’s focusing on revitalizing,” says local broker and Realtor Bill Arzt of Realty One Group Cutting Edge, adding that multiple projects are past the planning stage, including a new train station and housing. “A lot of good things are in the works and it’s exciting to see the town focusing on that section again.”

Route 5 and Interstate 91 run parallel

Route 5 stretches the length of the town from north to south, parallel to Interstate 91. Both serve as major thoroughfares for Thompsonville residents and connect them north to Springfield and south to Hartford. "There's a lot of activity because we're smack dab in the middle of Springfield and Hartford, which is really convenient," Arzt says. For regional and international traveling, the town is 8 miles from Bradley International Airport and 18 miles from the Westover Metropolitan Airport.

Cape Cod-style cottages to Neo-colonial builds

Established homes in Thompsonville can date back to the early 1900s. Cape Cods, colonial-style homes and small cottages are common among home styles here, while new builds erected in the last 5 years take on more contemporary Neo-colonial looks. Apartment complexes and condos are also available, many concentrated in communities that offer walkability to local restaurants in the town center. While the median price for real estate hovers around $296,000, homes may typically range from $120,000 to around $550,000.

Recreation and events at Enfield Town Green

At the center of town, the Enfield Town Green offers a tract of open space that serves as a recreational respite — with a playground and trails — and an events space for the community. “The Town Green is utilized for a lot of events throughout the year,” Arzt says. “The town is especially known for its Fourth of July, which is one of the best in the states.” Fireworks at the end of the night top off the festivities, which include music, entertainment and food vendors. While seasonal events take place on the green annually, regular community events such as the weekly farmers market keep locals busy and engaged throughout the rest of the year. The park’s trails lead to the Freshwater Pond, where visitors can get a glimpse of waterfowl and the historical Enfield Dam.

Local malls and a shopping plaza in the midst of revitalization

On the opposite side of Interstate 91, Enfield Square shopping mall features a slew of shops, local businesses and a Target. Revitalization efforts are also underway for the mall, Arzt says. “A couple of things are on the table for projects to revitalize the mall,” he says. “It’s going to be more of an open space mall.” Plans include making the plaza more walkable and creating space for events. The adjacent Enfield Commons shopping center houses Marshalls, Barnes & Noble and Aldi, and more clothing and grocery stores are located across the street at Brookside Plaza. Dining options in the area span casual breweries and bars, fast-food chains and a host of diverse eateries.
