Walkable Thornton neighborhood with accessibility to Denver
The subtle sound of children playing outdoors and dogs barking echoes through Concord, a residential area in central Thornton. Trails branch north of the neighborhood, tying it to nearby elementary and middle schools. Public transportation and nearby highways grant access to Denver's major employers, popular museums, professional sports and entertainment venues.
Trails from Trail Winds to Eastlake Shores
Neighborhood sidewalks lead to biking trails that connect the area to nearby parks. “Eastlake Shores Park is an 85-acre conservation area with a large pond, walking trails, native vegetation and an active area with tennis courts, a playground and shelters,” says Doug Romig, the Parks, Recreation & Community Programs Director for the City of Thornton. “This is a great location to see various bird species and other animals.” Trail Winds Park is popular among skateboards and extreme sports enthusiasts, which also includes a recreation center and synthetic turf fields with stadium lights.
Free city-sponsored events in Carpenter Park
Less than 3 miles from Concord, Carpenter Park hosts various events, including Thorntonfest in June and a Trunk or Treat event in October. “The city’s Independence Day celebration draws around 70,000 people to the park for live music from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on two stages, skydivers and an incredible fireworks show,” Romig says. “The [Carpenter Park] open field is around 17 acres and has an additional 24 acres of ground we use for parking vehicles during these events. All but one festival is free to the public. The admission-based event is our Barrel & Beer Festival, which is going into its third year [in 2025] and will be relocated to the fields at Trail Winds.”
Shaded yards, sidewalk-lined streets and new traditionals
From mid-1980 to mid-1990, single-family homes were erected in the neighborhood’s cul-de-sacs, along sidewalk-lined streets. Mature trees shade the backyards, many outlined by wooden fences. New traditional is the dominant architectural style among both single- and two-story homes, some of which have basements. Homes are priced between $420,000 and $580,000.
Academics and school choice in Adams 12
Adams 12 Five Star Schools district serves the neighborhood and offers school choice. Skyview Elementary School earns a B grade from Niche grades a B and Shadow Ridge Middle School receives a B-minus. Horizon High School maintains an A-minus and offers various school clubs and activities, including the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).
Adjacent to Concord, Anythink Libraries combines a traditional library with a maker space.
Public transit, roads to shops and popular highways
The 120th Avenue runs west and east through the neighborhood’s southern region, connecting it with nearby shopping centers, Interstate 25 and Extension 470 via CanAm Highway. Interstate 25 links to downtown Denver in about 18 miles, and E-470 leads to the Denver International Airport (DEN), for domestic and international flights, around 20 miles away. The Regional Transportation District (RTD) provides bus services in the neighborhood with stops along 120th Avenue. The N-line light rail is accessible less than 5 miles west.
Shopping centers and local dining within a mile
Since Concord does not have a dedicated retail and dining area, short drives or walks to commerce centers are necessary. King Soopers and Ace Hardware are both in the Mission Trace North Shopping Center, about a mile west. National restaurant chains and local eateries, such as The Grumpy Egg Cafe, are also in nearby commerce centers. International dining options are abundant and include Yonsei, which serves sushi for carryout and dine-in.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
