Suburban Thornton community with several conveniences
The Villages at Riverdale is among the neighborhoods filling out the growing north end in the Denver suburb of Thornton. Children here can easily walk to school, while it’s not uncommon for neighbors to leave their homes and quickly get on winding paths to take relaxing strolls across tree-dotted and gently rolling landscapes. The community is also privileged to be just down the road from Riverdale Regional Park, a roughly 1,200-acre site built around a series of lakes and fishing holes. “It’s actually very close to everything that you need to feel like you still live in the city,” says Jessica Hernandez, a broker with Right Choice Realty. “But it does feel like you’re removed from the hustle and bustle of the city. It has a little bit more of a rural feel because you’re closer to the water, the golf courses and still have mountain views.”
Suburban blocks with contemporary and modern Traditional homes
The community shares its name with the nearby Riverdale Road thoroughfare, and this area includes the smaller Quebec Highlands subdivision. The neighborhood features quiet streets and economic yet neatly kept lots. The community also has a few open spaces, like the Quebec Highlands Family Park, where parents can relax under a pavilion while watching their children on the playground. A short distance away is the larger Quebec Highlands Park, which has walking trails, another playground and a grassy hilltop offering some overlooking views of the neighborhood.Much of the housing dates back to the 2000s and 2010s and blends contemporary, Traditional and Craftsman architecture. Costs can go from right under $500,000 for a three-bedroom home to over $850,000 for a seven-bedroom build.
Capitalizing on Riverdale Regional Park’s sports amenities
Riverdale Regional Park offers two lush 18-hole courses, while the area also has a disc golf course with a sculpture of bigfoot. Located right along the shore of Mann-Nyholt Lake, the Veterans Memorial is another one of the park’s popular sites. The memorial’s attractions include a partial replica of the USS Colorado. Anglers enjoy visiting the lake and the humorously named Fishing Is Fun Pond to particularly catch rainbow trout and other species like bass and catfish. Other common park activities include walking and biking on a few miles of trails. “That’s kind of a cool and really fantastic area there. It capitalizes on everything that is Colorado. People like to do outdoor sports,” Hernandez says.
Summer fun at the Adams County Fair
Riverdale Regional Park’s other significant attraction is the Adams County Fairgrounds. Every July and August, the site in the heart of the park buzzes with excitement during the Adams County Fair. The massive event’s entertainment includes the usual carnival rides, 4-H shows and contests like a cornhole tournament. Children can enjoy several free activities like bounce houses and a petting zoo featuring alpacas and other common farm animals.
Coding, robotics and Riverdale Ridge High softball
The community is home to Brantner Elementary School, which gets a B-plus from Niche. Students can develop their tech and scientific skills early with extracurricular activities like the Brantner Robotics & Coding Club. The neighborhood is also zoned for Quist Middle School and Riverdale Ridge High School, both located right outside the Villages. The schools, respectively, get C-plus and B grades from Niche. Riverdale Ridge maintains a strong softball program, with the squad bringing home a state title in 2024. The school’s girls’ basketball team is as impressive, winning a state championship in 2024 and returning to the finals in 2025.
Down the road from Doug’s hearty meals
The nearest shopping centers have chain brands like Walmart and a King Soopers grocery store. Residents looking to dine at a local staple must travel farther down East 136th Avenue. The Hilltop Village is home to Doug’s Diner, a regional institution with locations scattered between Denver and Fort Collins. Popular for its hearty breakfasts and comfort foods, Doug’s has anything from fruit-covered crepes and eggs benedict to enchiladas and thickly glazed cinnamon rolls.
“It’s a heavily residential area, but it has all the necessary amenities,” says Kylynn McTague, spokeswoman for the Thornton Police Department, which has a substation at the Fossil Ridge Public Safety Center just outside the Villages. “It’s very close to Walmart, and the Denver Premium Outlets are just minutes away from that area.”
Down the street from E-470 toll road
The neighborhood is just down the street from the E-470 toll road, an option for commuters looking to deal with less congestion than other highways and thoroughfares. East 136th Avenue goes straight to Interstate 25, about 5 miles west. I-25 then goes to downtown Denver, about 19 miles south of the area. The community is also about 21 miles northwest of the Denver International Airport, the region’s hub for commercial flights. Six miles west, the CommonSpirit St. Anthony North Hospital is among the nearest major health care facilities. However, Thornton’s HCA HealthOne Mountain Ridge system has an emergency room less than three miles from the Villages.
