Plus, with downtown just 1 mile south, residents can venture beyond home for more restaurant options.
Along with restaurants, residents in Oak Park Avenue Estates are also within walking distance of supermarkets and convenience stores. CVS sits in the northwestern corner of the community. Just on the other side of 171st, Jewel-Osco is less than 1 mile away, within walking distance. Rubino’s Italian Imports is half a mile north, specializing in imported Italian goods, deli items and hot meals.

Oak Park Avenue connects residents to downtown Tinley Park and its strip of restaurants and shops. Pace buses also run along the road, offering another way to get to downtown or Rubino’s. Also downtown, the Tinley Park Metra station is less than 1 mile away and links commuters with downtown Chicago, about 27.5 miles northeast. Travelers can fly out of Chicago Midway International Airport, about 15.5 miles north. For medical attention, Oak Park Avenue Estates is about equal distance from Advocate South Suburban Hospital and Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital, both just over 7 miles away.
Fishing at Centennial Park and hiking at the forest preserves
While Oak Park Avenue Estates doesn’t have any parks or green spaces of its own, the neighboring communities offer some green spaces. Just a bit westward down 167th Street, Centennial Park spans 58 acres, with a 12-acre lake at the center. A walking path encircles the water, leading to the fishing piers. The western side of the park is home to a lot of the space’s recreational amenities, with the soccer field, basketball and volleyball courts and a skatepark found here. “There’s also a ton of forest preserves nearby where people can go to picnic,” Cahill says. One of these is Yankee Woods, which features 27 miles of trails leading pedestrians, bikers and cross-country skiers through the trees.

Tinley Park's live music scene
Tinley Park prides itself on its active music scene, with concerts from big-name artists Lil Wayne, Paul McCartney and Bruno Mars at Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre on the south side of town. On a smaller scale, people can also enjoy life music on Saturdays in the summer for Music in the Plaza, hosted downtown at Zabrocki Plaza. “And they’re all free for the community,” Cahill says. While not focused on music, the Irish Parade every March has gone through Tinley Park for over 24 years, featuring over 80 floats and groups, including the Tinley Park High School Marching Band.
Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre is a short drive from Oak Park Avenue Estates.
