A close-knit neighborly atmosphere within walking distance of York Road
Anneslie is a unique residential neighborhood just south of Towson, with an identity forged by its historic houses and its proximity to trendy restaurants. For the most part it is residential, comprised of single-family homes on tight rectangular lots. “Having a neighborhood that is mostly comprised of classic older homes, with community events and big, mature trees, is less and less common these days, so the people who live there really treasure it,” says Realtor Kellie Langley, who has over 20 years of experience with Coldwell Banker. “People love that it’s a close-knit, get-to-know-your-neighbors kind of place and that they can still walk from their front porch down the street to get an ice cream cone on summer nights.” Its western boundary is York Road, a busy thoroughfare lined with small shops and restaurants. All this is complemented by the neighborhood’s nearness to gathering spots in both Towson and Baltimore, making Anneslie feel like a rare find for prospective buyers.

A broad range of home styles keeps each lot in Anneslie feeling individual
The community’s gridiron residential streets are lined with historic homes, none of which date later than the mid-20th century. “The earliest homes were built in the 1920s,” says Langley. “Many have gone through some renovations, but there’s no new construction. The most recent builds all went up in the 1970s. There are 12 of those in total.” There is no one dominant home style within Anneslie. Cape Cods and Colonials sit alongside bungalows with Craftsman features and even brick Tudor cottages, giving each small, rectangular lot a unique sense of identity. Prices can range anywhere from $350,000 to $700,000 depending on the number of bedrooms, the size of the lot and the status of any renovations.

These include Pure Raw Juice, a favorite haunt of Towson University students, and the Villagio Café, a Persian restaurant that has remained popular for over a decade. Neighborhood residents can enjoy summer evening walks to The Charmery, a home-grown ice cream shop with flavors like Old Bay caramel and lemon stick, inspired by classics of Maryland cuisine. Other trendy communities in the city are also within reach. “Hampden isn’t a difficult trip at all, and it has a lot of options,” Langley adds. “And the Belvedere Square Market is the closest of the public marketplaces, so that’s a go-to spot as well.”
