Natural beauty and outdoor destinations reign in Trenton
Serving as the seat of Dade County, Trenton features miles of rural farmland, mountain views and exciting annual events. This serene neighborhood, full of lush green mountains, keeps all its shops and dining destinations in downtown Trenton. When locals crave a trip to the big city, they head 19 miles across the Tennessee border to Chattanooga. When residents aren't hiking Cloudland Canyon State Park or gazing out over the mountains, they're resting in their spacious homes on large lots. “People move here because it’s a quiet area with a country setting, good schools and an easy route into Chattanooga,” says Stephanie Knirk, a Realtor with BHHS Southern Routes Realty.

Large, open lots wait for developers or homeowners ready to build their dream homes. “There aren’t a lot of new homes being built in the area, so most homes have been standing since the 1970s and 1980s,” Knirk says. Most homes feature three bedrooms, paved driveways, attached garages, brick siding and ranch-style designs. The prices can range from $275,000 to $400,000. And no matter where residents settle, they'll get plenty of mountain views. Some units sell in less than a week, while others might take over a month to move.

Sail over Lookout Mountain or hike Cloudland Canyon
Downtown Trenton borders the popular hiking, camping and fishing destination—Cloudland Canyon State Park. It's one of the largest state parks in Georgia and features Lookout Mountain, where visitors go to see miles of deep canyons, caves and cliffs or learn to hang glide at Lookout Mountain Flight Park. Guests can hike along the creeks or catch a glimpse of the diverse wildlife throughout the park. For a more laid-back outdoor spot, residents head to Jenkins Park to play on the baseball fields, playground equipment or basketball court.

Locals hangout at Corner Coffee
Trenton residents travel down South Main Street to visit Ingles Market, supply shops and popular chain restaurants. The road also leads into downtown Trenton, where hungry locals gather to eat at Los 3 Amigos for a delicious Mexican lunch or Thatcher's BBQ & Grille for mouthwatering pork eats. Corner Coffee serves hot drinks when guests need to refuel after a day of shopping. “Thatcher’s, Rafael’s Italian Restaurants and Lalito's are the main local dining options. The other options are fast food places,” Knirk says. Those who live closer to the Alabama and Tennessee borders don't have restaurants and grocery stores nearby, so they make the 13-mile drive into town to stock up on essentials or catch up with the other townsfolk.

Dade Elementary gets the blue ribbon
Kids in Trenton receive their education in the Dade County School district. Dade Elementary School, which gets a B-plus from Niche, prides itself on its status as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, while the B-rated Dade Middle School offers a vibrant athletics program with teams from wrestling to golf. Dade County High School offers Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) programs to prepare older students for their post-graduation lives. Niche gives Dade County High a C-plus.

Yard sales are no joke in Trenton
Thanks to its status as the county seat, Trenton hosts many of the area's most prominent community events. The New Salem Mountain Festival draws in a crowd every year, where Georgia residents and beyond come together to welcome the fall season by purchasing locally sourced artisan goods, from stained glass to candles. Trenton is also a stop along the World's Longest Yard Sale every August. “It's a very popular event that brings in a lot of visitors to the area,” Knirk says. Visitors travel along Highway 11 to peruse an eclectic mix of antique dealerships, flea markets and bazaars. Whether shopping for artisan wares or trying local cuisine, there's always an opportunity to mingle with neighbors.
Day trips to Tennessee or Alabama
U.S. Highway 11 gives residents a direct route into Chattanooga when they want to avoid traffic on Interstate 59. Both routes also run into Alabama, where Knirk says it takes her about a 15-minute drive to visit the neighboring state.
