A park-side community for thrill-based activities
When a park is as densely laden with features as Santa Rita Park, one can safely assume its surrounding neighborhood will offer a variety of lifestyles commensurate with what the park has to offer. The south Tucson neighborhood of the same name certainly demonstrates this by offering a wide but affordable range of home prices and thrilling entertainment options that excite many. "This park serves the Santa Rita neighborhood and Armory Park neighborhood residents, and also residents of the City of South Tucson as one of the only park spaces available nearby," says Tucson Parks and Recreation Administrator Jasmine Chan.
Desert-style housing in the valley
The neighborhood is collection of residential streets boxed in by major roadways, all of which spread outward from a park near the center of the neighborhood. With its rigid and flat streets, most residents of Santa Rita Park can easily look west from their small front yard to catch a glimpse of Sentinel Peak, accenting a foreground of Spanish-style bungalows and adobes. But the neighborhood is not one of Tucson's busiest markets, so listings come few and far between. If a home buyer is able to snag a newly built property in the neighborhood, it is often for a price that is below Tucson's average for new builds and considerably below the national average. In general, homes in Santa Rita Park sell for anywhere between $160,000 and $500,000, depending on their amenities, size and year built.

Rental bikes for grocery runs
Getting from the house to the park without a car is possible but a bit difficult in the neighborhood. Most streets include a narrow sidewalk, while major roadways also often have a wide enough shoulder for cyclists, who are further accommodated with a TUGO rental station on 6th Avenue. There are also bus routes running on major roads in and around the neighborhood, which can be taken to the downtown area. But one will undoubtedly need a vehicle of some kind for grocery runs, as the nearest major outlets for such are Safeway and Food City, both at least 2 miles east.

Block-after-block of Latin flavor
Fans of Latin cuisine are very well served in Santa Rita Park, which has a Mexican cantina or bakery on seemingly every other street corner. Empanadas or bolillo bread from Mendez Bakery and Tortillas or a bowl of albondigas soup from El Torero are just some of the dishes regularly sitting on tables packed with locals. Most popular dining and shopping locations are confined to the neighborhood's streets southwest of the park, especially along 22nd Street. That is where savvy locals go to pick up a holiday present from the Monsoon Chocolate Factory, whose gift shop sells award-winning chocolate bars, beverages and other confections. But when locals grow tired of their usual surroundings, downtown Tucson is at most 2 miles north, and development happening downtown is bringing even more entertainment options close to the neighborhood, such as Rocks and Ropes indoor rock climbing.

Skateparks and slow pitch leagues
The most inseparable amenity from Santa Rita Park is its 22-acre namesake, located roughly in the center of the neighborhood, where locals often run into one another for competition and camaraderie. "There is an adult men’s slow pitch softball league that has played in Santa Rita Park for years, the baseball little league fields are very popular, and the occasional softball tournament is hosted at Santa Rita Park," says Chan. Thrill-seekers can head half a mile north for a dose of adrenaline at Premises Park Indoor BMX/Skatepark. But the park also has a public option for days with nice weather. "The skatepark is very popular and is one of the busiest in Tucson, which has a strong skateboarding community," says Chan.
Diverse schools with IB
