A rapidly growing town with recreation
The oldest home in Tulsa is just one sliver of the sweeping history that engulfs Owen Park. Built in the 1880s, the quaint property of Rev. Sylvester Morris, who founded multiple Methodist congregations in the city, is still standing. That's just one reflection of this rapidly growing neighborhood’s steadfast dedication to preserving its roots. This history buff’s paradise has a pair of monuments in the heart of town: one dedicated to the meeting point of the Cherokee, Creek and Osage Indian nations and the other to author Washington Irving, who wrote about his views from the Owen Park hilltop while the government surveyed the land in his book “Tour of the Prairies.”
“People do appreciate the history of Owen Park,” says Libby Beaubien, Realtor for Keller Williams Realty. “They value the diversity, the cute houses and how affordable they are. It’s also so close to Downtown Tulsa, and there’s so much going on downtown these days.” Residents have an easy commute to Tulsa, which is home to several major employers such as the Saint Francis Hospital South and its entire medical system, The University of Tulsa and Williams Companies, Inc.

Cooling off at well-regarded country clubs
The homes are easily walkable to the neighborhood’s namesake park, which spans 24 acres along the eastern side. Park visitors can use the seasonal splash pad and asphalt playset or stop for a moment to feed the scores of geese always hanging around. Athletic experiences await at Tulsa Country Club, which is named by Golfweek Magazine as one of the top five courses in Oklahoma. It caters to non-golfers as well, offering a pool with a diving board and slides, two hard tennis courts with seasonal clinics, a full-service fitness center and an upscale restaurant where residents can cool off.

Craftsman homes with city views
Owen Park’s residential streets are lined with 1920s bungalows and Craftsman homes ranging from $250,000 to $450,000. These houses usually have proximity and rest on modest lots, though, typically come with extensive back decks and panoramic views of the city skyline. “Inventory is so low, so if something’s priced right and it’s in Owen Park, it’s going to be gone in a matter of hours,” Beaubien says.

Annual festivals and drag shows
Every September, Owen Park residents put on a Tiny Porch Festival. As they walk from street to street, live bands perform on neighbors' porches, with local food trucks set up during this free event. "It provides this real sense of community in the neighborhood," Beaubien says. No matter the month, The Tulsa Theater is a popular destination for concerts and drag shows. Dust Bowl Lanes and Lounge is nearby and where people go for a bit of healthy competition with friends.
The Tulsa Theatre is in the heart of Downtown Tulsa.
