Rosewood branches to the east of Tulsa
Eastward expansion was inevitable after the oil boom catapulted Tulsa into the 20th century. That’s how neighborhoods like Rosewood became part of the landscape. Couched between Interstate 244 and US Route 66, this handful of residential streets is home to a predominantly Hispanic community and a smattering of locally owned businesses. “It’s an older, established neighborhood with an easy commute to downtown Tulsa,” says Janice Koss, broker associate with Coldwell Banker Select. In the center of a traffic circle in the neighborhood’s northwest corner, the Route 66 Tulsa Admiral Landmark stands as a nod to nostalgia and a reminder of the city’s forward motion.
Rosewood is a lush and vibrant community with mature trees and plenty of green space.

Barbacoa and bargain hunting
A small shopping center highlights several Mexican restaurants at the intersection of South Mingo Road and Route 66. At El Hidalguense, diners can choose between chicken, beef, or lamb barbacoa. Also on site are a home goods store, a cannabis dispensary, and an ice cream shop. A short drive away, Las Americas grocery store stocks all the essential ingredients for a home-cooked meal. There’s a Walmart Supercenter on nearby South Memorial Drive for other household items. Bargain hunters appreciate the eclectic items displayed at Good Vibes Collectibles and Admiral Flea Market near the Route 66 Tulsa Admiral Landmark in the neighborhood’s northwest corner.

1960s brick ranch-style homes
Like many neighborhoods east of downtown, Rosewood made its mark on the Tulsa landscape in the 1960s, as the abundance of brick ranch-style homes can testify. Many feature cross-gabled roofs and attached single-car garages with enough driveway space to fit another vehicle. Properties measure about a quarter acre, and most come with fenced backyards. Since this is an older neighborhood, there’s plenty of tree cover lending shade to the residential streets. However, only the major thoroughfares have sidewalks. There aren’t many retail and dining options nearby, so owning a car is a must. Small fixer-uppers sell for around $175,000, while larger updated homes are priced in the $220,000 range.
Expertly manicured landscaping and well-maintained homes show the sense of pride in Rosewood.
Rosewood streets do not have sidewalks, however, the wide lanes do leave room for foot traffic.

Cast a line at Carol Williams Pond
Outdoor recreational opportunities beckon from the other side of South Mingo Road toward the McClure Park area. The Mingo Trail follows the creek that shares its name, giving joggers and cyclists a place to get their workouts without dodging traffic. Near the trail’s I-244 terminus, anglers cast their lines for bass, catfish and perch at Mingo Creek Pool. Farther south, Carol Williams Pond offers more fishing opportunities, and the nearby Dovillio Disc Golf Course features 18 holes on a level and lightly wooded course.

The Mingo Valley Expressway borders the neighborhood to the east. From there, hopping onto I-44 for the 10-minute drive to the downtown districts is easy. MetroLink Tulsa buses stop in a few spots on East Admiral Place for commuters who prefer to avoid driving. Historic Route 66 passes near Rosewood’s southern edge, opening up opportunities for exciting day trips.
