Peaceful residential village just east of Vandenberg Air Force Base
First developed in the 1960s as a bedroom community for officers and military employees stationed at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Vandenberg Village is set about 6 miles north of Lompoc. The military still has a strong presence in the area, including both retired and active-duty members, though the village now hosts a mix of residents with different backgrounds. In addition to the base, Vandenberg Village offers a small commercial space in the center of town, which includes a local market, coffee shop and office spaces occupied by professionals, including dentists, veterinarians and lawyers. Locals still have to leave the community and head to Lompoc for major retailers and more dining options, but residents aren't solely dependent on outside towns. Vandenberg Village is one of the area's newer developments outside of Lompoc, offering a quiet, serene feel with less traffic.

Midcentury homes and new developments on the south side
Made up of 5.2 square miles of winding streets with Santa Ynez Mountains off in the distance, Vandenberg Village features mostly midcentury ranch-style homes and split levels. 21st-century New Traditional and Craftsman-style homes with partial stone exteriors and steeply gabled roofs stand alongside Spanish Revival-style properties in Providence Landing, a development on the village’s south end. “Providence Landing has its own parks and athletic facilities,” says Debbie McComb, a local real estate agent with Compass and a nearby resident. “It’s the only community in the area with an amenities tax.” Buyers can expect a three-bedroom ranch from the 1960s to go for $450,000, while a four-bedroom Spanish Revival-style home with a view of the Mission Club golf course can sell for over $700,000. Neighborhood streets are lined with wide, well-maintained sidewalks that make the village easy to navigate by foot or bike. The community has a Cap Index crime score of 2, compared to a national score of 4. Passersby will often see residents walking their pets and enjoying the sunny weather.
