Many homes with a view of the White Deer Run Golf Course
In suburban Vernon Hills, Gregg's Landing offers a living experience that differs from those around it. Here, developers designed the 18 holes of White Deer Run Golf Course and the housing developments around it to complement one another. “There are about 12 or 13 pods that branch out from the main road, where several houses back up to the golf course,” says Jeff Ohm, president of Premier Realty Group based in Vernon Hills. “Usually, only the most expensive homes have golf course views. Here, that’s not necessarily the case.” In addition to the beauty and functionality of the community golf course, Lake Charles and a couple of neighborhood parks provide recreational opportunities. Further, the Gregg's Landing's location places it within Hawthorn District 73, a highly rated Vernon Hills school district, and 40 miles outside north of Chicago.

White Deer Run Golf Course
The neighborhood's centerpiece, White Deer Run Golf Club, traverses through homes in the southern half of the community. The course is open to the public and offers lessons and clinics. Lake Charles Park has a lake for fishing, picnic shelters and a barbecue grill. There are separate playgrounds for younger and older kids and plenty of parking off Greggs Parkway. Hawthorn Mellody Park has a half-mile lighted walking path, a baseball diamond and a beach volleyball court. Charles Brown Park, part of the Libertyville Park District, is right next door. The nearly 22-acre facility has an inclusive playground, basketball court and picnic tables. On the east side of Milwaukee Avenue, there’s access to the Des Plaines River Trail. “That’s a popular path for walkers and even people on horses,” Ohm says. “Mettawa is a large horse community south of Vernon Hills.”

Not far from shopping and dining on Milwaukee Avenue
“Parks, restaurants, shopping and the railroad are all within 10 minutes from all homes in Vernon Hills,” says Lori Progar, a broker associate at Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage with over 40 years of experience. Most businesses are along Milwaukee Avenue, which runs along the east side of Gregg’s Landing. Lowe’s, Menards, Mariano’s and Aldi are in plazas along the road on the community's eastern edge. Chicago-style deep-dish pizza from Lou Malnati’s is in another one of the many shopping centers alongside the road. The Lake Charles Grill and Charlie’s Hideaway are two dining options inside White Deer Run’s clubhouse. Hawthorn Mall was an exclusively indoor shopping center, but it has transformed into a mixed-use facility with housing and outdoor storefronts.
