About 10 miles south of Birmingham, Alabama, is Vestavia Hills, a suburban city brimming with housing options and a casual dining scene. Known locally as Vestavia, homes in the community sit on gently sloping landscapes with driveways and well-maintained front lawns. The city has its own high-performing school system and a bustling city center. Geographically, Vestavia Hills is located inside Jefferson and Shelby Counties. This is a well-balanced suburb where locals can shop, dine, play and live without leaving the community.

French Colonials and midcentury modern style homes

In Vestavia Hills, most locals own their homes, and potential buyers can find lots ranging in size from a quarter of an acre to over two acres. Within this desirable community are midcentury modern styles and bilevels planted among the hillsides. Several French Colonial homes add a distinguished look to the streetscape. In the northern corridor of the community, some dwellings have views of the greens and fairways of Vestavia Country Club. The area also contains large 21st-century homes showing craftsman influences, such as mixing brick and shingle siding. Those looking for new constructions can find charming homes inside Woodruff Cottages reminiscent of old-world European styles. High-marks at Vestavia Hills City Schools

The Vestavia Hills City Schools ranks No. 4 in Best School Districts in Alabama, according to Niche. Kindergarten to fifth graders may attend either East Elementary or West Elementary; both schools earned an A on Niche. The district also contains three additional high-ranking elementary. These students can move on to Liberty Park Middle, which has the No. 2 spot for best middle school in the state and an A-plus on Niche. Vestavia Hills High School Freshman Campus was opened in 2020 and supports students transitioning to high school. Vestavia Hills High has earned several awards for sports and academic achievements; the high school has an A-plus on Niche.

Outdoor dining at Vestavia Hills Civic Center

Wald Park is a large recreational complex with a dog park, public pools and tennis courts. Young athletes flock here for matches on the soccer fields and baseball diamonds. The Vestavia Hills Civic Center is excellent for an indoor workout on the pickleball court or the gym. Locals at McCallum Park can hear the gurgling of the rushing Little Shades Creek past the parking lot and open field. Many admire the natural landscape on the tree-shaded trails on a bike or foot. Loch Haven Park has a dedicated space for canine residents for fun and exercise, as well as a playground for their young human companions. Locals seeking fun may strike out on the lanes at Vestavia Bowling. The community is also home to the Vestavia Country Club. Members have access to 176 acres of exclusive amenities. Sporty locals can play on the 18-hole or 9-hole par course and swim in three resort-style pools.

Shopping at Vestavia Hills City Center

At the Vestavia Hills City Center, residents can shop for groceries at Publix. Those looking for more shopping head north to Walmart Supercenter, Target or Whole Foods Market. The local shopping center also contains several restraint options. Locals visit Taco Mama's or Tecate Bar and Grill for casual Mexican-style fare. Other popular establishments include Cajun Seafood House and Baumhower’s Victory Grill. Hungry patrons can grab a slice of pizza at Donatos Pizza, or any other nearby spot and enjoy a meal outside on the turfed seating area. Although the community does have a movie theater and restaurants open after dark for date night, many end up traveling to downtown Birmingham for a livelier nightlife scene.

Transportation around Vestavia Hills

Commuters can travel by bus along routes managed by the Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority. Vestavia Hills has quick access to Interstate 459, Interstate 65, and Highway 31.
