Access to amenities near naval bases
Tucked up ageainst the Oceana Naval Air Station, Lynnhaven is about 6 miles from Oceanfront Virginia Beach and just under 14 miles from Norfolk, which is home to the largest naval base in the world. As a result, there’s a heavy military population in Lynnhaven. The neighborhood’s small creeks, ponds and mature trees provide areas of beauty and relative calm when residents want, but its abundance of shopping and dining keeps life convenient and interesting. “It has so many amenities like a big city,” says Madison Mason, the Realtor and owner of Level Up Realty and an 8-year resident of the surrounding area. “There’s so much to do, but it’s not as busy as some of the big cities like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles. And that’s really what brought me here, too. It’s busy without being crowded. You have the beach, you have mountains three hours away, you have literally everything at your fingertips.” Despite the potential to be busy, Mason says, Virginia Beach as a whole moves at its own – often relaxed – pace, and the area has its own sense of community. “It’s nowhere close to a small town, but it’s very rare that I go out and don’t see someone I’m familiar with or know.”
Lynnhaven is a beautiful town with a friendly vibe.

Lynnhaven Mall offers shopping and entertainment
For many, Lynnhaven Mall is the neighborhood’s main feature – and it’s undoubtedly the center of much of its activity. Mason says that it’s the nicest mall in the area, so traffic around it can be particularly crazy around Christmastime, which is something residents need to plan around. The massive mall contains hundreds of stores, including recognizable stores like Apple, Barnes & Noble and H&M alongside an arcade, an AMC movie theater and an abundance of restaurants. When they’re hungry, residents often head to Maggie McFly’s during happy hour for its huge menu or treat themselves to dinner and wine at Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant. Nearby, Snakes & Lattes is a popular board game café where friends meet to enjoy a meal or drinks alongside any of its over 600 board games. Walmart and Lidl also make it easy for residents to pick up essentials close to home. Residents can find even more entertainment by making the short drive to Oceanfront Virginia Beach or heading over to Norfolk. “Around Norfolk, you have the hustle-bustle,” Mason says. “A lot of the upbeat community is in Norfolk with our downtown districts over there, so you kind of have the best of both worlds in Lynnhaven.”
The Lynnhaven Mall has all the major stores, a food court and much more.
Maggie McFly's located at the Lynnhaven Mall has delicious options and is a local favorite.

Colonial-style homes and new constructions
Lynnhaven’s residential streets, which are noticeably quieter than its commercial areas, are often lined with sidewalks and homes with well-manicured front yards. Some areas have prominent mature trees, while others feature more open front lawns. Colonial-style homes, especially Garrison Colonials, ranch-style homes and new construction houses built in contemporary styles with colonial influences are all common in Lynnhaven. Starter homes that need a few updates often start at around $300,000, while large, updated homes with four bedrooms and three bathrooms can climb to nearly $600,000. Mason says that the market typically slows during the winter months. “During these months, we usually don’t slow down too much, but I think with the combination of the holidays plus the rates going up, it really slowed down,” Mason says. “Things are starting to sit for a couple of weeks rather than a couple of hours, but come springtime, things will get competitive again.” Military personnel receive their orders around February, which also gives the market in Lynnhaven a springtime boost.

Commutability through Lynnhaven Parkway, I-264
