Twin bridges across Lake Waco
Parkdale Viking Hills is one of several Waco neighborhoods bordering Lake Waco, the Texas city’s main water source. Winding roads course around oaks, cedars and several parks, affording a glimpse of the blue expanse and lakeside living. “It’s a beautiful area with lovely elevation,” says Katie Snapp, Realtor with Camille Johnson, Realtors. “Even if you’re not on the lake, getting to drive by the lake is always a nice experience.” Ascension Providence Hospital borders the southern side of Highway 6, offering employment opportunities to folks living nearby.
Parkdale Viking Hills sits on the edge of Lake Waco and multiple parks.
The neighborhood takes full advantage of its waterside location with amenities like the Ridgewood Country Club. Established in 1947, the lakefront retreat features tennis courts, a fitness center, marina, pool complex and clubhouse with personal wine lockers. Recent updates to the 18-hole golf course include reworked tee boxes and new bunkers and greens. “They recently had a renaissance of targeting young families,” says Snapp, who sat on the club’s board for three years. “We have a great pool scene, comfortable restaurants for children and a private marina.” At nearby Woodway Activity Park, picnickers enjoy scenic views of the lake. Rustic walking paths lead through wooded areas, and the disc golf course inspires spirited gameplay. A playground and picnic pavilions with barbecue grills round out the amenities. Adjacent to the Twin Bridges, Midway Park has a boat ramp on Lake Waco. And the ball field and batting cage are the star attractions at Jaycee Park, a short distance from Tennyson Middle School.
Since 1947, Ridgewood has become the foremost family country club in Parkdale Viking Hills.

State Highway 6 and Twin Bridges
State Highway 6 cuts through Parkdale Viking Hills, threading between Ridgewood Country Club and Woodway Park before crossing Lake Waco. “It’s called the Twin Bridges because the eastbound and westbound routes are separated,” says Joe Reed, Realtor with Weichert Realtors and 2024 president of the Waco Association of Realtors. The neighborhood is home to Ascension Providence Hospital, which borders the southern side of Highway 6. Downtown Waco awaits 5 miles away, and it’s an 8-mile trip to Waco Regional Airport. Waco Transit System buses run on the far eastern boundary of the neighborhood, but the area is mainly car-dependent.

The watery downside of lake life
Lake Waco is prone to flooding during and after heavy rainfall. That means Woodway and Midway parks are often closed to the public when water levels are high. A $71 million construction project is currently underway to replace the Twin Bridges, an undertaking that will widen the bridge but greatly affect traffic patterns for the next several years.
