Suburban Neighborhood in Hawaii
Honolulu County 96795
Situated along the coastline of windward Oahu, Waimānalo features miles of pristine beaches and Ko’olau Mountain views, making it one of the most scenic neighborhoods on the island. This community was once an area most known for farming and fishponds throughout the past and has maintained the rural feel to this day with several farms still in operation on the mountainside of the neighborhood.
Lush green trees and plants line the streets of each subdivision throughout Waimānalo, with Kalaniana’ole Highway running through the middle of the neighborhood. Have the beach at your back door in an oceanside home or you can choose from homes nestled along the countryside with scenic mountain views in the backdrop. Many homes in Waimānalo were built between the 1950s and the 1980s, however, there are some newer builds available for buyers as well. You also have the choice of several townhomes, often with recently renovated interiors that include modern appliances and flooring, as well as apartments.
Students in this neighborhood are zoned to either Blanch Pope Elementary School or Waimanalo Elementary & Intermediate School, both serving the Hawai’i Department of Education. Blanch Pope Elementary School offers several after-school clubs and programs for its students, including a soccer academy and the Malama Ko’olaupoko after-school program that consists of games, art, and academic support.
Waimānalo is filled with authentic Hawaiian cuisine, mostly along Kalaniana’ole Highway. Grab a beer for liquid courage and sing your heart out at Ohana Karaoke Grill & Bar, which also offers a variety of classic Hawaiian dishes. Ono Steaks and Shrimp Shack sells Fresh Ono and Garlic Ahi among other tasty menu options in a uniquely decorated sit-down environment. Residents can get a plate lunch while on their way to the beach from Hawaiian staple L&L Hawaiian Barbecue or Keneke’s.
Miles of sandy beaches can be found along the coastline of Waimānalo, including namesake Waimānalo Beach Park. Known for its powdery white sand and clear blue water, this beach is perfect for bodysurfing or just soaking in the sun. Heading north from Waimānalo Beach Park will take you to Bellows Field Beach Park, which also offers picturesque clear blue water as well as several campsites for an overnight trip. Makapu’u Beach Park is nestled along a bay on the southern end of Waimānalo and is a hidden gem for beachgoers. This beach is not only a great surfing location but also features a popular lookout point that provides a scenic overview of the beach.
