Bordered by Lafayette to the west and downtown Walnut Creek to the southeast, Saranap is a nearly undetectable neighborhood. At the turn of the twentieth century, it used to have a convenient feature: an inter-urban commuter rail system that linked Oakland to Sacramento. The neighborhood was named after the railroad developer’s mother, Sara Naphtaly. Today, the neighborhood has become something of a hidden gem with its scenic parks, charming local businesses and immaculate homes. "It’s a charming area that feels country-like in some spots. It’s close to the Lafayette and Iron Horse Trails and some parts are very close and walkable to downtown Walnut Creek, which has excellent shopping with high-end stores and restaurants,” says Soraya Golesorkhi, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker.

Public transportation options are available through the County Connection bus routes winding throughout Saranap and beyond. Residents who drive frequently can use California State Route 24, a heavily traveled road that serves the eastern side of the Bay Area. The neighborhood also has access to Interstate 680, which runs along the northwestern edge of the neighborhood and connects San Francisco to Fairfield. For air travelers, the San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport is 24 miles out. The larger Bay Area cities are also not too far out from Saranap, with a 16-mile drive to Oakland and 25 miles to San Francisco.
