Historic suburb just outside downtown Boston
Piety Corner is a historic suburb of Waltham that is known for its landscape, an enclave full of lush greenery, everywhere you look. One of the oldest settled areas of Waltham, the district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990 for its impressive collection of 19th and 20th-century buildings. “It’s an unbelievably beautiful area,” says Dave DiGregorio, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty, who’s been selling homes nearby for over 25 years.

Traditional suburban homes with larger lot sizes
Homes stand on winding residential blocks that maintain a suburban feel, with sidewalks in some places. The area’s larger lot sizes and ideal vistas come at a price, as Piety Corner has some of the most expensive homes in Waltham. DiGregorio says minimum sale prices in the neighborhood run around $850,000, and prices can top out at around $2 million. “When homes do end up hitting the market, they go pretty quickly,” DiGregorio says of Piety Corner.

Well-rated Waltham School District
Kids may start at Douglas MacArthur Elementary School, which gets a B grade from Niche, before transitioning to John F. Kennedy Middle School, which earns a B-plus. Students may then attend Waltham High School with a B grade, which offers the Newcomers Academy for newly arrived immigrant and refugee students to ease their transition. A new, more-than 400,000 square-foot Waltham High School is under construction and is slated to open in 2024. Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall is an additional private school option close by that sends 100% of its graduates on to college.

Prospect Hill Park highlights the neighborhood’s recreation
There's plenty of recreation nearby, including Storer Conservation Storer Conservation on the east side of the neighborhood. This massive 109-acre expanse was designed by notable 19th-century landscape architect Frederick Olmsted. The heavily wooded area includes a 1-mile loop trail and a section of the Western Greenway, a path 7 miles total, extending to Belmont. Piety Corner also sits just north of the 273-acre Prospect Hill Park, which has its own extensive network of moderate-to-steep trails. The park rises to Waltham’s highest point, at 485 feet. Some in Piety Corner can walk right from their properties and into Prospect Hill Park, DiGregorio says. “You can walk right up into the trails and just walk for hours,” he says. DiGregorio says that the nearby Waltham Family YMCA is popular with people in Piety Corner as well. Among the amenities housed in the facility are a six-lane swimming pool, steam rooms and a gym. Within Storer Conservation sits Stonehurst, the former estate of social reformer and philanthropist Robert Treat Paine and his family. The sprawling home, adorned with a stone façade, was designed by Olmsted and fellow architect Henry Hobson Richardson and was completed in 1886. It’s now owned by the City of Waltham and is open for exploration, by appointment. The estate can also be rented for events.
