Quiet neighborhood built into the hillside
Overlooking Greenwich Bay is Cowesett, a neighborhood within the city of Warwick. The area’s main street is called Love Lane – a fitting name, considering the pride residents feel for their neighborhood. Alessandra Alvarez, a Realtor with over nine years of experience, says, “You can tell the people here are proud of their community and love their homes.” The area was once used as farmland, until development began in the 19th century, transforming it into a residential area. “Something charming about the neighborhood is that you can tell it wasn’t really planned,” Alvarez says. “It’s not like a grid system at all: The lots are larger, there’s trees everywhere, a mix of architecture, and a bunch of winding roads.” Although Cowesett is primarily residential, dining, shopping and entertainment options are found on the east side, alongside Post Road. Other highlights include the Warwick Heights Tennis Club, Little Rhody Beagle Club and Clouds Hill Victorian Museum. If residents can’t find what they need nearby, they can easily hop on Interstate 95 to travel into parts of the city. “That’s the nice thing about it. You get this secluded, residential feel, but then you can easily head into East Greenwich next door, or deeper into the city. The airport is literally right there.”

From ranch-styles to colonial-inspired homes
There’s a mix of residential architecture in Cowesett, with some of the most common being colonial-inspired homes, ranch-styles and split-levels. “There’s definitely more diversity in housing, and more properties close to the water due to the neighborhood being next to Greenwich Bay,” Alvarez says. “Some of the homes are historic too — some as old as 100 years old!” Houses here tend to have larger lots and yard space and are shaded by leafy maples and cedars. Properties on the east side of the neighborhood are by the bay, which allows for quicker access to waterfronts. The neighborhood has no sidewalks, but that doesn’t stop residents from walking their dogs or taking their daily strolls. Prices start at $450,000 and go up to $850,000.

Alvarez personally recommends Chelo’s, a waterfront bar and grill: “They have amazing seafood. I love the fish & chips. It’s a classic. You can also literally pull up in your boat and order something.” Back to Basics Natural Food is a go-to for groceries and other everyday needs.
