Fairfax Village is a well-designed and intentionally well-landscaped 54-acre suburban community in the Anacostia River area of Southeast Washington. It welcomes residents with gently rolling hills and abundant mature trees, providing natural beauty and a sense of calm in this well-situated community. Families enjoy access to nearby Alger Park, Fort Davis Recreation Center as well as all the benefits and attractions of the Anacostia River waterfront. But the best thing about Fairfax Village, according to Realtor Victor Young, with KW Metro Center, is its excellent location on the southeast corner of Washington. “This location defines convenience. It’s close to the Capital Beltway so you can easily get to downtown D.C., Maryland or Northern Virginia. You’ve also got nearby Metrobus stops and the Naylor Metro station, so you don’t have to drive if you don’t want to.”
Located between Pennsylvania and Alabama Avenues to the north and east, and Suitland Road SE, the community’s residential neighbors include Good Hope, Fort Davis, Dupont Park and Hillcrest. Primarily a condominium community, Fairfax Village Condominiums is the main residential attraction in the neighborhood. Founded in 1941, it has evolved over the years to include nine clusters or “villages” of three-story, brick, Georgian-style buildings. The community offers more than 600 one- and two-bedroom condo homes and 166 two-story townhomes with ground-floor garages. It's a popular place to live for federal employees who work on Capitol Hill and in downtown D.C. One-bedroom condominiums range from about $160,000 to $190,000. Two-bedroom condominiums range from about $180,000 to $260,000. Fairfax Village has maintained a strong sense of community over the years, which is evident in the consistent maintenance of its beautifully landscaped grounds. You can also find a few single-family homes in Fairfax Village including Colonial-Revivals, ranch-style homes, Cape Cods, and Spanish mission-style homes. Recent seven-bedroom all-brick Colonial Revival homes have sold for around $975,000.
Neighborhood kids can attend Anne Beers Elementary, Sousa Middle, and Anacostia High School. Beers Elementary offers pre-K through fifth grade and has a C-plus rating from Niche. Sousa Middle offers sixth through eighth grades and has a notable student-teacher ratio of 9 to 1. Niche gives Sousa a C-minus grade. Historic Anacostia High School was founded in 1937 and is notable for its strong athletic programs. It offers AP courses and has a graduation rate of 62%. Niche gives Anacostia a C-minus grade.
Nearby Alger Park offers seven acres of wooded green space as well as a notable creek that is a tributary of the Anacostia River. Hillcrest Recreation Center is a popular neighborhood destination that offers an arts & crafts room, a computer lab, basketball courts, a community garden, a spray park, and outdoor fitness equipment. According to DC.gov, Hillcrest Recreation Center will be adding a $15,000,000 indoor aquatic center to its location within the next few years. As Realtor Young says, “This is great news for Fairfax Village. When the aquatic center opens it will be a huge asset to the area!” Washington Nationals fans do not hesitate to cross the Anacostia and take in a ballgame as Nationals Park is just two miles away. For those who enjoy fishing, boating and watersports of all kinds, they'll appreciate that homes in Good Hope are less than a five-minute drive to points all along the river.
On fair weather days, you’ll often see children riding bikes through the neighborhood or heading to the Francis A. Gregory Library, which is less than a block away from Fairfax Village Condominiums. Nearby Fairfax Village Shopping Center features Papa Johns, Danny’s Sub Shop, The Village Pantry and a post office. Fairfax Village has no Metro Station, however, the Anacostia Metro Station on the Green Line is located nearby in the Buena Vista neighborhood. Residents also enjoy using the popular Capital Bike share bikes to get to the Metro Station, or to visit nearby parks.
Fairfax Village occupies a solid position among Southeast Washington D.C. neighborhoods. It not only offers a community within a community thanks to the stable presence of Fairfax Village Condominiums, but it also provides tangible and visible proof of the power of longevity, from strong schools and expanding community centers to thriving and vibrant parks. As quickly as homes move when they come on the market, it’s clear that Fairfax Village should be at the top of homebuyers’ lists for their ideal new home.
