Plenty of retail to walk to in the heart of D.C.
Logan Circle is one of D.C.’s most densely populated neighborhoods due to its volume of high-rise condos and popularity among locals as a hub for retail and nightlife. It’s a centralized area that’s mere blocks away from Downtown D.C., revolving around the namesake circular park, one of Pierre L’Enfant’s “wheel-and-spokes” street designs that the city is known for. Charlie Gaynor, a longtime Logan Circle resident and Realtor with City Houses, says, “When I moved here in 1977, there was nothing on 14th Street; now it's developed with city services, great walkability and an attractive housing stock.” Century-old townhouses sit beside more modern multi-unit buildings here, and residents frequently walk from home to one of the restaurants and stores along 14th Street Northwest, the main corridor for retail and entertainment.
14th Street runs through Logan Circle and is lined with restaurants and boutiques.

Logan Circle hosts Jazz in the Park and Studio Theatre for entertainment
“Logan Circle is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the District,” says Matt Dewey, COO of Urban Pace, “the actual circle itself is a great gathering place, a good place to have picnics and read.” Logan Circle is also the name of a green space at the center of a roundabout, with a statue of the neighborhood’s namesake, John A. Logan, a politician and Civil War veteran, sitting on horseback. The park has benches and routinely hosts yoga and Jazz in the Park, where live bands serenade locals in the warm June evenings. A couple of blocks west in the Dupont Circle neighborhood is Stead Park, which has a rec center, playground, basketball courts and a multi-use field that hosts youth soccer or flag football games. A couple blocks east in Shaw is Cardozo Playground, which has basketball courts, a dog park and a skate park. Logan Circle is also home to Studio Theatre, where crowds have come to see contemporary plays for over 40 years.

14th Street draws visitors for food, nightlife or retail
“14th Street is a destination for people all over the metro area,” Says Gaynor, “those of us that live here enjoy it, personally speaking, during the week, while lots of people come from all over on the weekends for our nightclubs and beer gardens.” Local restaurants and regional chains line 14th Street on either side. Vegas Lounge is a nightclub with a Blues band performing live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Further north up the street is Garden District, a newer beer garden with a covered patio, a menu of barbecue sandwiches and draft beer. Jinya Ramen Bar offers ramen and rice bowls and has locations throughout the D.C., Maryland and Virginia area, also called the DMV. Da Hong Pao Restaurant & Bar offers dim sum dishes for brunch, roasted Peking duck and cocktails. Logan Tavern is a neighborhood gastropub that has been around for over twenty years. It’s known for offering weekend brunch specials and a “make-your-own” Bloody Mary bar. A Whole Foods is on P Street NW for groceries.

Victorian-era rowhouses line Logan Circle
Rowhouses dating back to the 1870s and 1880s line the residential streets, so much of Logan Circle retains a Victorian-era character for passersby. The Logan Circle Historic District preserves many of these century-old homes. The predominant architectural styles here are Second Empire and Richardson Romanesque. Home values here range from $300,000 to north of $2 million. Condos are prevalent in Logan Circle; some are within converted rowhouses, or high-rise buildings concentrated closer along 14th Street NW. Studios and one-bedroom options start around $300,000, while three-bedroom lofts and penthouse units can stretch well over $1 million. Rowhouses go from the mid $900,000s for two to three bedrooms and over $2 million for historic properties with four or more beds.

D.C. Pride runs through 14th Street
The Capitol Pride Parade comes through 14th Street in June to celebrate Pride Month and goes as far south as Penn Quarter. Gaynor also mentions, “At Christmas, there’s a holiday house tour, and there are numerous block parties that individuals will organize.”

Folks closer to the north side of Logan Circle can walk to the Howard U – Shaw metro station, while folks in the south can reach Mount Vernon Square 7th Street metro station. Howard U station has Green Line access, while Mount Vernon Square offers Green and Yellow Line access through the DMV.
