A small Tichigan Lake community

Wisconsin’s Tichigan takes its name from the lake at its heart, Tichigan Lake. With a median lot size of half an acre, homes of Tichigan cluster around the lake and Fox River, which feeds the lake. There are a handful of local bars and restaurants, and the area is surrounded by green space. Interstate access is just a few miles north, putting downtown Milwaukee just 30 miles away. “We’re kind of a bedroom community to Milwaukee, Racine and Waukesha,” says Jim Wendt, real estate broker and appraiser with Mel Wendt Realty, Inc. “It’s a place for those who want to have more of the country experience without being far from the big city.”

Tichigan Lake and a small petting zoo

The Bear Den Zoo and Petting Farm has a wide selection of animals that guests can interact with. The zoo’s regular animals include chickens, rabbits, llamas and goats, and they also host a variety of guest animals throughout the year. Tichigan Lake spans 279 acres and has a maximum depth of 63 feet. The lake is a popular spot to boat and fish for largemouth bass, northern pike and other types of fish. On Jensen Parkway, Waterford Town Park offers an open green space, a swing set, a baseball field and picnic shelters.

From ranch-style homes to lakeside manors

Home styles vary widely throughout Tichigan, with many dating back to the 1960s and 1970s. The area’s ranch-style homes have low-slung rooflines and garages that fit one or two cars, while larger colonial revival-style homes feature more open facades with broad gables. These styles typically have less than 3,000 square feet, sit on streets slightly off of the lake and sell between $300,000 and $600,000. Tichigan’s modern and cabin-style homes commonly surpass 3,000 square feet and sell between $600,000 and $1.5 million.

The show is held to help local families experiencing hardships, focusing on raising money for children with significant medical needs. Tichigan Lake Lions Flannel Fest brings community members together to don flannel and enjoy food, drinks and raffles, all to benefit various local causes.

Local pizza and Mexican food

North Lake Drive holds Tichigan’s only pizza place, The Cruise. Wood paneling and warm colors give this local joint a laidback, comfortable atmosphere. East of The Cruise, Sol y Luna Mexican American Restaurant serves a menu of authentic Mexican fare that’s popular with residents. Residents hoping to pick up groceries or do some shopping have to head south to Waterford, where they can stop at My Creative Cottage for crafty home decorations or stop at Pick N Save for groceries.
