Mixed home styles along hilly residential blocks

Houses in downtown Weirton sit on extended residential blocks that cut through the naturally hilly landscape. It isn’t unusual to see thick retaining walls, staircases and raised foundations here, and streets are narrow with a mix of garages and on-street parking. Most homes in the neighborhood are from the 1920s to 1940s. These draw from Craftsman, American foursquare and minimal traditional design sensibilities, and buyers can find them in a variety of conditions. A few homes on the south end from the 1950s and 1960s round out the market. These mostly have Cape Cod or split-level forms and employ a simple folk style with brick, vinyl or aluminum exteriors. Single-family homes with higher upkeep needs generally range from $12,500 to $37,500. Turnkey properties and updated homes typically sell from $45,000 to $145,000. Duplex homes in varying conditions range from $26,000 to $51,000. The area’s CAP Index score of 7 out of 10 indicates a higher potential crime risk than the 4 out of 10 national average.
