Brosen Manor's yards are spacious enough for hobbies and entertaining

In the eastern half of West Allis, moving closer east to downtown Milwaukee, neighborhoods are dense, and yards are small. Brosen Manor, however, is a slight exception. The curving residential roads lend themselves to some larger lots with some space for hobby gardens, trampolines, patios and swing sets. Houses typically sell only two weeks after listing, and according to Ross Treffert, Realtor at Keller Williams Milwaukee North Shore, the area has a lot of first-time homebuyers. "The last house I sold there was to a young couple that just had their first child and were looking for a starter home," he says. Main roads, parks, schools and restaurants are nearby, adding to the neighborhood's desirability and high demand.

Small, single-family houses from the middle of the 20th century

Brosen Manor is made up of predominantly single-family homes built in the mid-1900s. Cape Cods, bungalows, and ranch-style homes less than 2,000 square feet range from about $160,000 to $345,000. Well-maintained lawns are along the gently winding streets, with landscaped lawns in the shade of tall trees planted at the neighborhood's inception. "There's a good mix of homeowners and landlords here," Treffert says. "There are very proud homeowners, and people take care of their yards and properties." The neighborhood's southeast corner, past Beloit Road, has Manor Park Senior Center, senior apartments and VMP Healthcare and Community Living, an assisted living facility.

"In general, the government has put a lot of money into West Allis in the past 15 years," Treffert says. "They're approving streets and sidewalks and giving loans and grants to help small businesses get a start, and West Allis has transformed into a bit of a foodie town."
