Preserving North Dakota’s natural beauty
Retention ponds dot the landscape throughout The Preserve neighborhood, while the Sheyenne River flows slowly along its western edge. Despite being in the vicinity of busy Interstate 94, the community preserves some of North Dakota’s nature, offering residents the opportunity to stroll along the riverbanks under the cover of trees. This, however, doesn’t mean it’s remote – residents need only to walk a block or so to the vibrant entertainment district or to the region’s largest medical center. According to Erik Wall, Army Veteran, Realtor & Team Owner of the Wall Street Realty Team brokered by eXp Realty, The Preserve offers a blend of accessibility to businesses with the natural beauty and quiet residential streets that are unique to the neighborhood.

Subdivisions with notable differences
The subdivisions of The Preserve have notable differences as one moves throughout the neighborhood. Maple Ridge is exemplified by contemporary built-to-plan single-family homes on lots a fifth-of-an-acre in size, while South Pond mixes these in with custom homes on larger lots, as well as twin homes too. River’s Bend and North Pond feature expansive single-family homes with a mix of Craftsman and Prairie influences; and these are mostly custom builds, which sit on lots ranging from a third-of-an acre to a half-acre. Across the subdivisions, homes feature oversized two- or three-stall garages for vehicles and storage. Prices in Maple Ridge and South Pond generally range from $250,000 to $600,000. While four- and five-bedroom homes in the North Pond and River's Bend areas usually go for between $675,000 and $1.1 million, with six-bedroom homes reaching anywhere from $775,000 to upwards of $1.5 million.
Quiet residential streets and large multi acre lots define the serene living of The Preserve.

Sheyenne sports shines
Freedom Elementary School is located in the center of the neighborhood and parents regularly walk their children to school in the mornings or drop them off and pick them up on the way to and from work. It gets a B grade from Niche, while Liberty Middle School gets a B-minus. With a B rating, West Fargo Sheyenne High School shares a campus with Liberty Middle and the high school team, the Mustangs won their first Division AA boys basketball championship in the 2023-2024 school year. For private schooling, there are two primary options – Oak Grove Lutheran Schools and St. John Paul II Catholic Schools. For the latter, Trinity Elementary School is within the neighborhood and is attached to Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Interstate 94 opens up the region for residents
While MATBUS serves the greater Fargo area, The Preserve only has a few stops along the 24 route. The Preserve's paved paths provide great recreational biking and walking options, but residents are generally car-dependent. Interstate 94 runs along the top end of the neighborhood, with quick access west to the heart of North Dakota or east to Downtown Fargo and Moorhead. It’s close enough for some noise to bleed into the neighborhood, but a commercial area does buffer the sound. Downtown Fargo is just under 8 miles away, a 15-minute drive most times of the day. While Hector International Airport is a little over 8 miles away, the drive often takes less time, thanks to the airport’s location just off Interstate 29.

Pocket parks and Rustad’s innovative indoors recreation
A pair of pocket parks – River’s Bend and Maple Ridge – provide playgrounds and picnic shelters with pondside views. Along the Sheyenne River, a paved trail for walkers and bikers offers some respite in nature, and anglers can cast out a line to see what bites. While not renowned for fishing, there are still catfish and baitfish in the Sheyenne. Rustad Recreation Center is the pride of the West Fargo Park District, providing indoor basketball, volleyball and pickleball courts, a walking track, an indoor playground and an artificial turf field. Just across Veterans Boulevard, Family Wellness is a partnership between Sanford Medical and the YMCA, and also offers indoor classes and a fitness center.

More than just pubs
In an area where the bar-and-grille is the norm – and there are plenty within The Preserve, including the Oasis Restaurant & Bar and Pub West – Wurst Bier Hall stands out, says Wall, “It’s a German restaurant with an array of food and beer that can be a really enjoyable step away from the norm.” The Piggy BBQ also brings something unique to the neighborhood, offering fresh smoked pulled pork, brisket and more, for eating in or for take-out. The shops along Veterans Boulevard feature restaurants and retail options, including Olive Street, a local boutique. “They offer the latest in styles,” says Mogard. “This can be a great place to find a gift for that special someone.” Costco on the neighborhood's north end is always busy, while Cash Wise Foods is a convenient grocery stop on the southeastern corner.

The Lights provides events for all
“One of the fun attractions nearby is The Lights. There are various retailers like coffee shops, salons/spas, ice cream shops and much more!” says Danielle Beilke, Realtor with Beyond Realty. It’s more than that though, she explains – it’s an events hotspot for West Fargo, with everything from movie nights and yoga in the plaza to professional bull riding and concerts featuring nationally touring acts. She says these concerts can sometimes be heard by residents who sit outside on their lawns to enjoy live music, from afar, for free. On top of this, the Red River Valley Fair takes place just north of the neighborhood in West Fargo, and features rides, food, games and concerts over the span of 10 days.
The Lights is where live performances add to the vibrant atmosphere of dining and entertainment.
