Waterfront neighborhood on the National Register of Historic Places
El Cid is a storied neighborhood along the western shore of Lake Worth, where stately homes and tree-lined streets sit behind luxury condos along the waterfront. First developed as a pineapple field in the late 19th century, the neighborhood was founded when Mediterranean Revival and Mission-style homes were built during the Florida Land Boom of the 1920s. The community is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and El Cid offers old-world charm just south of West Palm Beach’s lively downtown.

A mix of historic homes and luxurious condos
El Cid's eclectic mix of period architecture and new construction reflects the neighborhood’s rich history and development over time. Most homes range from about $2 to $10 million. The community is home to 281 historic buildings, with single-family homes dating back to the early 1920s. Most of its older, stately homes sit on residential streets further from the water, where towering hedges and lush canopies of southern oaks and palm trees offer residents a sense of privacy. Mediterranean Revival and Mission-style homes feature neutral stucco exteriors, terracotta tile roofs and arched doorways. Along the western shore of Lake Worth, South Flagler Drive is one of the most expensive streets in the neighborhood and features both waterfront homes with private docks and modern, high-rise condo complexes with prices ranging from around $900,000 to $11 million. Residents must pay $100 per household to become members of the El Cid Historic Neighborhood Association.
