The grape juice capital of the world
In Westfield, acres of vineyards with bright purple Concord grapes stand out against the blue waters of Lake Erie. Boaters set sail from the Barcelona Harbor, while down the road, the small Village of Westfield serves as a central commercial corridor, residential hotspot and community gathering place. "Westfield is a cute, little sought-after town," says Mary Ford, associate broker with ERA Team VP Real Estate, who has 16 years of experience. "It's higher up on the social stratus. There are beautiful old houses, a vibrant downtown and seasonal produce in the summer. It's very Americana."
Agricultural tourism spurs the economy, with dozens of vineyards and wineries scattered along the shoreline. The region's fertile farmland has attracted national attention, with major brands like Welch's establishing its first grape-juice plant in Westfield in 1897. Today, Westfield is known as “The Grape Juice Capital of the World,” and the Welch’s plant still operates. With nearly 20,000 acres of vineyards, residents embrace the small-town, agricultural lifestyle, taking pride in their roots with annual celebrations like the Westfield Grape and Wine Festival.

Arts, crafts and food at Moore Park
Residents ring in the fall with wine tastings and live music during the Westfield Grape and Wine Festival, one of the community's newest events. Two days of activities include grape stomping and grape pie-eating contests at the Westfield Farmers' and Artisan's Market in Moore Park. Interactive exhibits, history lessons and wagon rides through the vineyards await at the Lake Erie Grape Discovery Center, about 1 mile away.
"We also have the Arts and Crafts Festival," says Brandi Russo, a Realtor with Howard Hanna Holt–Mayville who has been in the industry for more than 20 years. Every summer, Moore Park transforms into a marketplace with arts, crafts and food. Vendors' admission fees help support Westfield's Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA).
Varied architectural styles and lakefront homes
The village's eclectic mix of homes includes cozy bungalows, Victorian-revival, and Colonial- and ranch-style properties that sit close together. Prices typically range from the $100,000s to the $400,000s. The rest of town consists of secluded farmhouses, Cape Cods and ranch-style homes with significant acreage. Smaller homes with multiple acres can range from the $80,000s to the mid-$100,000s, while homes with more land are priced from the mid-$200,000s to the mid-$300,000s. Westfield's most expensive homes offer secluded lakeside living with prices reaching the $500,000s. At Edgewater Condominiums, lakefront units with floor-to-ceiling windows range from the low to mid-$100,000s. Westfield has a CAP Index crime score of 2 out of 10, compared with the national average of 4.

Shopping and dining on Main Street
Johnson Estate Winery and Noble Winery are just two of the many vineyards scattered around town. In the village, a charming Main Street features a mix of antique shops, thrift stores and popular eateries. Residents can hunt for unique finds like Depression-era glass and vintage jewelry at Westfield Village Antique Center. The occasional art gallery sells handcrafted pottery and photography. Tops Friendly Markets and Dollar General are located within the village, while Walmart Supercenter is about 20 miles away in Dunkirk. However, Lakewood serves as the county's main commercial corridor, with shops including Wegmans and Target, approximately 24 miles away.
Homegrown diners serve classic American fare. The Parkview is known for its Sunday Champagne brunch with eggs Benedict and Belgian waffles. Next door, the casual, industrial interior at Brazill's on Main belies the fine dining that the restaurant is known for. Flat-iron steak with gorgonzola cream sauce is a house specialty.

Boating, fishing and nearby green spaces
Lake Erie's banks are dotted with seasonal campgrounds and green spaces like Ottaway Park. Barcelona Harbor Beach's sandy shoreline welcomes sunbathers and swimmers in the summer. The beach also has a marina, fishing pier and historic stone lighthouse.
Farther inland, the Village of Westfield features green spaces like Moore Park, a central gathering place and home of the McClurg Museum, which is run by the Chautauqua County Historical Society. Welch Field's recreation center offers year-round activities for all ages.
Less than 3 miles away, Pinehurst Golf Club offers a public 9-hole course. The surrounding farmland is interspersed with swaths of woodlands. Hiking trails weave along winding creeks, passing by the occasional small waterfall. Anglers can fish in multiple streams that run through town, such as Chautauqua Creek.
Like many nearby communities, Westfield is home to a Fish and Game Club, which attracts avid hunters and trappers near the Chautauqua Gorge State Forest. Other popular pastimes include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Thanks to the area's lake-effect snowfall and rugged terrain, Westfield residents are also within 60 miles of three ski resorts.
