North of local shopping at Kell West Boulevard
Fountain Park North is considered a more affluent suburb of Wichita Falls, where homes have generous yards and are generally larger. “It’s a much nicer area without being brand new builds,” says local Realtor Debbie Dobbins, who runs Love to the Moon Inc. and her own YouTube channel devoted to Wichita Falls. Residents live directly north of Kell West Boulevard, a central hub for local shopping. They're also less than 3 miles from both Midwestern State University and Kell West Regional Hospital, and 10 miles from Sheppard Air Force Base. According to Dobbins, being further south of the base has its benefits: “The closer you are to Oklahoma, which would be like Lynwood West, or by the base in Burkburnett, you see stronger weather. As you get into town where Fountain Park North is, you’re not going to get as much tornado activity.” Wichita Falls’ proximity to the Oklahoma border, 20 miles south, has earned it the nickname “Texoma.” The city’s golden era was in the roaring ‘20s when deep oil wells were discovered in its northern plains. The economy suffered after local refineries dissipated in the ‘60s. Today, it’s bolstered by the base – a NATO training facility.
Ranch styles starting in the high $100,000s
Homes in Fountain Park North are ranch-style and generally range from around 1,800 to around 2500 square feet. Typically, they have 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, but a few feature 4 bedrooms and some settle on upwards of half an acre. "You're looking at around 110 dollars per square foot, depending on how fixed up they are," Dobbins says. Comparatively, new homes closer to the Air Force base can be priced from $200 to $225 per square foot. While prices start in the high $100,000s and mostly stay in the $200,000 range, they occasionally veer toward the low $300,000s when they're from the '90s or over 2,000 square feet. Even though the weather here is less extreme than up north, storm alerts are common, and so is hail. Some homeowners convert their garages into rooms for additional space. However, Dobbins recommends keeping them as is for car protection. North Texas is no stranger to fires, and the Wichita Falls Fire Department has responded to more calls over the years, from 9,000 in 2017 to 14,000 in 2023. There have only been 3 major tornados in all of Wichita Falls history, in 1958, 1964 and 1979. The tornado that struck in 79 was the most significant, destroying over 2,000 homes.

Both are 4 to 6 miles from Fountain Park North and will support virtual learning and more collaborative in-person learning through breakout rooms and shared auditorium spaces. The elementary and middle schools are even closer, within 3 miles of homes.
