A white stone wall creates a barrier between the mid-century, suburban development of Bonnie Brae and the bustling commercial activity across Rock Road. Meaning “pleasant hill” in Gaelic, Bonnie Brae's landscape is accentuated by a small slope with a creek behind the homes on Bonnie Brae Street. “It’s a very sought-after area – just the uniqueness of the homes and the mature trees,” says Denise Lewis, a lifelong resident and Realtor with Keller Williams Hometown Partners who sold a home in Bonnie Brae in 2023. “My clients loved the quiet, homey setting. It’s just a nicely developed neighborhood.” On the other side of the creek is a top-tier private school, ranked as one of the best in Kansas.

Shopping and dining at and around Towne East Square
At Towne East Square, more than 100 businesses attract shoppers to the indoor mall. “There are two malls in Wichita, and that’s the one to go to,” Lewis said of the mall anchored by Dillard’s, JCPenney and Scheels. The mall is also home to Round1 Bowling & Arcade, which stays open until 2 a.m. every day. For groceries and everyday essentials, there’s Dillons Marketplace on Rock Road, where there are dozens of places to eat. Most restaurants are national and regional chains such as BD’s Mongolian Grill, where diners create their own stir-fry bowls, Old Chicago Pizza + Taproom and Hook & Reel, a Cajun seafood restaurant.

Midcentury homes on quarter-acre lots
Bonnie Brae is made up of mostly sprawling ranch-style homes and split-levels from the 1950s and ‘60s. “The homes have a lot of character,” says Lewis. “There’s nothing cookie cutter about them. They were built when people put a lot of personal touches on them.” Most homes are built on quarter-acre lots with fenced backyards. These two- to four-bedroom homes typically come with attached garages. They can range anywhere from 1,500 to 3,500, selling for $230,000 to $300,000, which is right around the citywide median of $235,950 for a single-family home.
You will find a few multi-story homes in Bonnie Brae as well.

Fresh air by the duck pond at Eastborough Park
Residents can relax in nature at Eastborough Park, about 1 mile west. The park’s duck pond is surrounded by a walkway with wrought iron fencing and bridges over the water with views of trickling waterfalls. There’s also a playground where kids can play while parents sit under the gazebo right next to it. Round1 Bowling & Arcade is a popular spot in the area with a little something for everyone. Arcade games add to the options, and the center's Spark Bowling system makes the lanes come alive with animation. Experts can show off trick shots with ping pong and billiards, and those who can sing — or not — can let everyone know at the karaoke station.
