Fox Ridge has a wetland setting amid suburban northwest Wichita

Developed across a wetland, Fox Ridge is a northwest Wichita community with equal parts natural appeal and suburban convenience. Winding sidewalks surrounded by native grasses and black-eyed Susan wildflowers lead to several resident-only amenities and the Maize South school campus. More of the area’s landscape can be explored at the award-winning Pracht Wetlands Park immediately south. Residents also have easy access to ample restaurants and retailers, with a small commercial corridor in the neighborhood’s southwestern corner and NewMarket Square nearby. “Homes are still being built because it’s such a desirable location. Kids can walk to school, and it’s near a ton of shopping. Those are huge draws,” says Heather Golden, an associate broker and Realtor with J.P. Weigand & Sons, who has sold several homes in the area. “It’s rare for a house to be on the market for over two days here.”

Cul-de-sacs weave between wetlands in Fox Ridge

Fox Ridge’s cul-de-sacs are brimming with homes built throughout the early 2010s. Modern cabin-style homes have four to five bedrooms and quarter-acre lots dotted with young oak trees. Six-bedroom contemporary estates feature half-circle driveways leading to three-car garages and backyards with private pools and wetland views. “You can’t swim or boat in the water, but you can fish, and it just makes the neighborhood pretty,” says Golden. Anglers in the neighborhood can go behind their iron fences and catch fish like largemouth bass or channel catfish. Buying here can cost between $500,000 and $1 million, a range higher than a Wichita home’s average $250,000 selling price.

Locals can access a lifeguard-protected pool and the award-winning Pracht Wetland Park

Locals have several resident-only amenities along Westlakes Parkway, including a playground and swing set. Cabanas surround the swimming pool in the eastern area, and it’s lifeguard-protected, whereas the smaller one to the west is not. Pracht Wetlands Park is a popular hiking spot off West 29th Street with a half-mile loop comprised of a sidewalk and steel boardwalk. Its well-preserved terrain and innovative design have earned several accolades since opening in 2019, including the Award of Excellence from the Kansas Recreation and Parks Association. Visitors can stop at one of the observation decks to see great egrets standing in lily pad-covered water or view waterfowl roosting. Fox Ridge is near a few other northwest Wichita green spaces, including the Reflection Ridge Golf Club and its 18-hole layout, just 3 miles south. Spanning 400 acres, Sedgwick County Park is 4 miles in the same direction. The park’s 4-mile sidewalk network surrounds four fishing lakes, pickleball courts and the Sedgwick County Zoo.
