Westlink has a well-established reputation and a namesake shopping center
Developed in the 1960s after its namesake shopping center was built, Westlink is a Wichita enclave combining midcentury establishments and modern amenities. The Westlink Shopping Center still stands along Central Avenue, and new eateries line North Tyler Road, ranging from cozy breakfast nooks to locally owned breweries. Residents can easily access numerous green spaces, like the recently built spray park at Buffalo Park or the historic 18-hole golf course at the Rolling Hills Country Club. “People here have pride of ownership because when you say you live in Westlink, everyone knows exactly what area you’re talking about,” says Heather Golden, associate broker and Realtor with J.P. Weigand & Sons, who has sold several homes in the area.

Midcentury dwellings sell for a reasonable price in Westlink
Westlink’s winding roads and cul-de-sacs are brimming with mature oak trees and midcentury architecture. Most residential streets do not have sidewalks, but the grassy median bisected by a stream along North Westlink Avenue is a popular spot for locals to jog or walk. Three-bedroom sprawling ranch styles feature picture windows and asymmetrical roofs. L-shaped layouts have two-car garages, and split-level dwellings can sit on quarter lots. Buying here costs between $175,000 and $300,000, similar to a Wichita home’s average $250,000 selling price. “There’s a ton of potential for renovations, and that’s another big selling point here,” says Golden. “But even if you aren’t looking to update, the houses are generally well-maintained.”

A wide range of retailers at the Westlink Shopping Center
The neighborhood’s namesake shopping center has several retail options, including a Westlake Ace Hardware. Play It Again Sports offers gently used athletic gear, while Damn Music Center has been a go-to for guitars and orchestra instruments since 2003. The commercial corridor is also home to fast-food restaurants like Starbucks and local spots like Riverside Café, a cozy Wichita chain serving pie by the slice and other comfort food classics. The neighborhood's northeastern corner along Tyler Road has a few other eateries, including Los Cocos, where patrons can devour a Tex-Mex meal and sip a frozen strawberry margarita. Next door, Wichita Brewing Co. serves artisan pizza and beers made in-house, coming in flavors like English brown ale or raspberry jam sour. The neighborhood has ample grocery shopping options, including a Dillons, Walmart Neighborhood Market, and an Aldi on North Maize Road.

Locals enjoy proximity to public pools and the Rolling Hills Country Club
Residents can glide down the orange and yellow twisty slide or jump off the diving board into the public pool at Harvest Park. While the baseball diamonds and tennis courts at Buffalo Park are open year-round, the splash pad comprised of wheat-shaped fountains makes the green space a summertime destination. The Rolling Hills Country Club offers an 18-hole layout and a bit of history in the same area. In 1950, the course hosted the Women’s U.S. Open, where 13 of its competitors founded The Ladies Professional Golf Association. Members are also privy to the dining club, and the pool, which hosts daily lessons and youth swim meets throughout the summer. Swanson Park is accessible off Maize Road, where hikers will find a 1-mile, looped trail spanning wide-open prairie land and hardwood forests. The city’s largest green space, Sedgwick County Park, is only 3 miles northeast of the neighborhood, offering a 4-mile sidewalk system and four fishing lakes stocked with largemouth and rainbow fish.
