Just 15 minutes away from downtown Dallas, Wilmer is known as a global distribution hub that has seen the likes of Amazon, Whirlpool and Proctor and Gamble open shop here. Even with continued industrial development, this community has not lost its small-town feel.

Those living within Wilmer mostly live in ranch-style homes that were originally built in the 1970s. Within the last few years, new development has been popping up in the neighborhood. In contrast to older developments, residents have access to sidewalks and safety features like lampposts. Students living in Wilmer attend Eddie Bernice Johnson STEM Academy, Kennedy-Curry Middle and Wilmer-Hutchins High, which has an overall C rating on Niche. Sitting alongside a railroad track, Adams Street Park has a sports field for sports like soccer, a basketball court and a playground. For additional recreation, there is Lancaster Community Park. The recreation center features an indoor walking track and a fitness gym. The aquatic center has a spiral slide and pool that is friendly for those of all ages. The Lancaster Dog Park is only a few minutes away from the community park and has a separate fenced area for larger dogs and smaller dogs.

Throughout the year, residents participate in community holiday events. The 4th of July celebration is called the Sparks Firework Show, where the community enjoys food, music and other fun activities throughout the evening. In September, the community comes out for the Pioneer Days event. From live bands to carnival rides and great local eats, it is an event everyone looks forward to. During Halloween, the Trunk or Treat is a safe way for kids to trick or treat safely. Finally, the first of December is the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on the City Square gazebo. Throughout the day, neighbors enjoy hot chocolate, take photos with Santa and enjoy singing along to Christmas carols.
