Little Italy is home to some of Wilmington’s finest Italian establishments. You’ll have options for lots of local Italian eateries, whether it’s sitting down for home-cooked pasta at Luigi Vitrone’s Pastabilities or ordering a double-slice pizza and Italian water ice from the window at Bernie’s. Stop by Papa’s Food Market for authentic imported and domestic Italian specialties, or grab some homemade cheese from M. Fierro & Sons, known for their famous ricotta.

After a hearty meal, you can head home to one of the neighborhood’s Italianate-style rowhomes. You’ll find mostly older homes built in the early 1900s, where many Italian immigrants settled during that time. While there are lots of opportunities for investment, you’ll find some turnkey homes with internal renovations. Many homes feature small, fenced backyards and front porches right off the sidewalk.

Students living in Little Italy can attend The Charter School of Wilmington, which has been serving the community for more than 25 years. After school, kids can head to the wooden playground at Father Tucker Memorial Park, which is located right next to St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church. This iconic feature of the neighborhood hosts the elaborate, annual carnival-style Italian Festival to raise money by celebrating Italian culture with food, music, rides and games.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
