A comfortable, convenient neighborhood in Winston-Salem

On the western edge of Winston-Salem, homebuyers can find a quiet, laid-back community with affordable homes. “The price per square foot is extremely low compared to other neighborhoods in the area, especially within the Meadowlark Elementary School district,” says Katie Trenerowski, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway who has sold several homes here. “It’s hard to find a house at these prices anywhere else.” Residents here benefit from tree-lined streets and plenty of access to outdoor recreation while also living close to the highway and near highly rated schools. For a peaceful community on the edges of the city, Harmony Grown-Town Center lives up to its name.

Tree-covered lots in western Winston-Salem

Harmony Grown-Town Center has multiple subdivisions, most of which feature homes with large, tree-covered lots. The houses are often spread out enough that residents have plenty of room for a game of backyard football or a cookout with friends and family. Mature trees provide ample shade throughout the neighborhoods. There are some subdivisions in the neighborhood’s southern end where the homes are closer together, but most still have good-sized backyards. The homes in the area are typically traditional ranch-style houses or Colonial Revival homes, with some other styles mixed in. Most houses have brick exteriors, but some have vinyl siding. Spacious built-in garages are standard. Most houses have four bedrooms and cost between $300,000 and $480,000. Larger homes can cost up to $550,000.

A quick commute to Meadowlark Schools

Students in the neighborhood will likely attend Meadowlark Elementary School, Meadowlark Middle School and Ronald W. Reagan High School. The elementary and middle schools each receive an A-minus rating from Niche, while the high school is rated an A overall. Reagan High serves approximately 2,000 students with a student-teacher ratio of 20-to-1. Students can participate in the JROTC program, which won the school district’s Commander’s Cup in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 school years, distinguishing it as the best program in the district. The school has been open since 2005 and won its first athletic state championship in 2014 in boys’ soccer.

Explore the outdoors at Jamison Park

Residents have several nearby options for outdoor recreation. “Within a five-minute drive, you have access to seven or more parks. There’s lots of walking trails and greenways,” says Trenerowski. You can spend some outdoor time at Jamison Park, just north of the neighborhood next to Meadowlark Elementary School. The park has several activities, including picnic tables, a playground, open fields and a dog park. The park also connects to the Muddy Creek Greenway, a 3-mile paved trail that runs along the creek from Country Club Road north to Jefferson Elementary School. Residents can use the trail for walking, running or biking. Residents are about 4 miles from Forsyth Country Club, a private golf course that has been around since 1913. Club members can play the 18-hole, par-71 course that features tree-lined fairways with plenty of water hazards and sand bunkers. The club also has a state-of-the-art fitness center, tennis facilities and a swimming pool.

Southern soul food at local restaurants

Several local restaurants provide residents with plenty of options for dining out. West Town Restaurant is a casual, family-friendly eatery with an extensive menu that includes burgers, sandwiches, pasta and steak. Diners can order from the menu or try entrees and sides from the cafeteria-style options. Duke’s is another popular restaurant on Country Club Road, known for its breakfast and lunch. Locals enjoy the pancakes in the morning and the tenderloin and mashed potatoes in the afternoon. Residents can shop for groceries at a Harris Teeter at the intersection of Country Club Road and Peace Haven Road. There is also a Walmart Neighborhood Market just north of the neighborhood on Country Club Road. Residents will find a mix of chain and local shops in the area, including The Barn on Country Club. Locals enjoy browsing this antique store for furniture, art and other items.

Highway 421 makes commuting a breeze

Harmony Grown-Town Center residents have an easy time getting around town, with Highway 421 in the southern end of the neighborhood. “One of the attractions of the neighborhood is the convenience to 421. It is so close and quick that it makes it really desirable for people who want a short commute,” says Trenerowski. The highway connects to Interstate 40, about 2 miles east of the neighborhood. Residents are about 8 miles from downtown Winston-Salem and 30 miles from the Piedmont Triad International Airport along I-40.
