Calm and convenience combined
South Peace Haven lives up to its name. Situated about 7 miles southwest of downtown Winston-Salem, this collection of suburban enclaves is well-insulated from the busy city center. But overlooking Interstate 40 and US Route 421, residents don’t need to sacrifice convenience for calm here. According to eXp Head Realty Group Realtor Nikki Rottweiler, this is a highly sought-after part of town for its proximity to downtown Winston-Salem and Clemmons. “People like that it’s right in the middle.” Realtor Matt Ingram of Real Broker LLC says that being this close to two highways makes “pretty much any town” easily accessible, adding that shopping and dining options are close at hand as well. “It’s the convenience to everything that gets people excited about what’s otherwise a pretty sleepy area.”
It’s giving range
These tranquil, tree-filled subdivisions showcase residential architecture’s greatest hits of yesterday and today. Early 20th-century farmhouses, vestiges of the area’s agricultural history, stand at the end of streets so quiet they’re almost rural. A two-bedroom, three-bathroom farmhouse built in 1910 sold for $230,000 in May 2024. Pockets of modest, Minimal Traditional cottages and ranch-style homes peek from between enclaves of large Colonial Revival and Split Level-style homes. These tend to sell for between $200,000 and $300,000. There are 21st-century developments, too, lined with closely spaced Craftsman-inspired homes or Traditional-style townhomes. In some of them, like Juniper Glen and Wyngate Villages, construction is ongoing. These new builds start at a little more than $300,000 for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom townhome and can go up to more than $500,000 for a three-bedroom, three-bathroom standalone home.

The one at Atkins is STEM-based; the one at Reynolds is Arts-focused.

Cricket’s Nest crafting, playgrounds and more
In the slice of the neighborhood where US Route 421 meets Interstate 40, residents can catch a blockbuster at AMC Hanes 12 or go bowling at Bowlero Winston-Salem. For a breath of fresh air, the playground, seasonal splash pad and sports fields/courts at Little Creek Park are just south across I-40. The playground at South Fork Park is convenient, too, on Country Club Road just a couple miles north of most homes. Beyond the playground, the shady park has picnic shelters, grills, a tennis court and a walking trail. There’s a kitchen, computer lab and meeting rooms available to reserve in the adjacent community center. Right next door, Cricket’s Nest Craft Shop sells hand-crafted goods by Cricket’s Nest craftspeople, local seniors aged 55 and up who maintain annual dues-based memberships in the shop community. The shop also hosts events throughout the year to encourage crafters of all ages, from the Firecracker Festival in July to the Cricket Craft Festival in September and the From Our House to Yours Winter Fair in December.

Close to three shopping and dining corridors
Covo Realty Realtor Sarah Katsamas says that locals on this side of town tend to shop along the nearby Hanes Mall Boulevard and Stratford Road corridors. The two thoroughfares put sporting goods and home improvement stores, pharmacies, familiar chain eateries and big box retailers like Costco and Sam’s Club all within 3 miles of most homes. Hanes Mall, which Ingram describes as “an old-style mall trying to hang on,” is close by, too. For everyday groceries, Food Lion and Harris Teeter are even closer to home, on Country Club Road just 2 miles north of most homes. Across the street from Food Lion, Duke’s Restaurant offers classic American-style breakfasts and lunches. The family-owned eatery is popular for its laid-back atmosphere. Next door, Real Q is known for its authentic Lexington-style pork barbecue, slow-cooked over wood coals and served in a special secret sauce.

South Peace Haven is located approximately 40 minutes south of the mountains.
Interstate 40; US Route 421
Interstate 40 runs along South Peace Haven’s southern edge. Taking I-40 east to Interstate 74, the nearly 24-mile drive southeast to High Point can take about 30 minutes, depending on traffic. US Route 421 bustles east-west through the middle of the neighborhood, connecting northeast to downtown and southwest to Clemmons. Both destinations are about 7 miles away. While most of the subdivisions in the area don’t have bus stops easily accessible on their residential streets, Winston-Salem Transit Authority buses do service stops along Hanes Mall Boulevard, Jonestown and Country Club Roads.
