With tree-lined streets, manicured yards and waterfront views, Woodsburgh’s serene beauty is the first thing many people notice about the little South Shore village. Its caring community and water-centric lifestyle, though, are what really define life in Woodsburgh, which has a private air about it thanks to its small size. “The community here is very tight-knit,” says Sara Abikzer, a licensed real estate salesperson at Signature Premier Properties. “It’s very peaceful, it’s active, it’s very water-focused. Until you have friends or meet people who live on the water, you can’t really believe that there’s this other life on the water. I think that’s actually very special. And the community to me is just really, really special. I love the people here.”
A few of Woodsburgh’s 220 homes have beautiful views of the water, docks or the waterfront golf course belonging to The Woodmere Club, which residents can play on by joining the club. These homes start out at around $1 million and climb to over $4 million. According to Abikzer, the value of homes in Hewlett villages, including Woodsburgh, are rising. “The homes here have clearly been holding their value,” Abikzer says. “They’ve only been going up in value in the past few years and I definitely see them continuing that way.” It makes buying in the village a solid investment, but finding a home can be a bit of a challenge. Low inventory and high demand has created quite a bit of competition for the homes that do wind up on the market. “The housing market is definitely competitive,” Abikzer says. “I think any potential buyer should be prepared with their funds, and if they fall in love with a house, to really be prepared because it might not last that long.” Steps like being pre-approved and having a great realtor, Abikzer says, can make all the difference in securing your dream home.
Most children in Woodsburgh attend the Hewlett-Woodmere Union Free School District, a highly desirable district that Niche rates among the top ten in New York State. Students begin their education at Franklin Early Childhood Center and begin second grade at a school like Hewlett Elementary School. They then move on to Woodmere Middle School, a National School of Excellence, and George W. Hewlett High School. At the high school, students participate in extracurricular activities like award-winning athletics programs or mock trial, robotics and literary clubs. A small portion of children in the neighborhood are instead served by the Lawrence Union Free School District, which has a B rating on Niche.
Living so close to the water, Woodsburgh residents love participating in activities like boating, kayaking and fishing in their spare time. Many also enjoy golfing or playing tennis at The Woodmere Club. Woodsburg’s great location also puts it close to major entertainment, so residents don’t have to go far from home for an afternoon of fun. “It’s a unique location because we are minutes away from some of the nicest beaches and on a good day without traffic about 45 minutes from the city,” Abikzer says. Residents can also commute to New York City from Hewlett Station just over a mile away, from which the train reaches the city in about 45 minutes. Nearby Hewlett, where the train station is located, is also where residents go to pick up groceries at Trader Joe’s or enjoy authentic Thai cuisine at Thai Chic Bistro. These nearby conveniences keep Woodburgh feeling connected to the surrounding areas and provide nearby entertainment when residents want it. The village’s waterfront ensures that residents don’t have to leave to have a blast, though, and its small, friendly community makes Woodsburgh feel like a true home.
