Walk along the hiking trail to get a better view of The Cascading Waters.
A residential enclave where nature and city amenities converge
With a hiking trail ending at a waterfall and another surrounded by a herd of sheep, West Tatnuck is a natural enclave within Worcester city limits. The neighborhood is also home to one of America’s oldest golf courses located at the Tatnuck Country Club. “It’s primarily residential, but all the aspects of city life are just 10 to 15 minutes away,” says Joe Abramoff, a Realtor with BA Property & Lifestyle Advisors. Residents will find other metropolitan amenities like Massachusetts Route 120 and the Worcester Regional Airport even closer.
Side-by-side ranch styles and century-old homes on rural roads
“West Tatnuck is known for its diverse housing stock,” says Abramoff. “I’ve had a few houses sell way above asking price and within four days of being on the market.” The neighborhood’s eastern region has an array of midcentury dwellings, including four-bedroom Cape Cod cottages and raised ranch styles with two-car garages. Gambrel farmhouses, Colonial Revivals and bungalows from the 1920s line gravel roads at the community’s core. The southern area is brimming with New Traditional estates sitting on half-acre lots. No matter the style, a house in West Tatnuck typically costs between $500,000 and $700,000, a range slightly higher than a Worcester home’s average $400,000 selling price.

Hikes surrounded by sheep or a round of golf on one of America’s oldest courses
“People here love to hike because there are so many accessible options,” says Abramoff. Named for the waterfall at its core, the 120-acre Cascades Park offers four different nature trails, all under 1 mile long. The aptly named Donker Farm Trail is surrounded by a privately owned livestock barn, meaning hikers often pass sheep, chickens and geese as they wander the 20-acre parcel. From the rocky outcroppings at Cook’s Brook to wetland routes in Moreland Woods, the area is filled with numerous other conservation spots managed by The Greater Worcester Land Trust.
Founded in 1898, Tatnuck Country Club has the prestige of being one of America’s first 100 golf facilities. The 9-hole course was designed by the famed Donald Ross, featuring a bent grass fairway and water shots. Members can also swim in the pool, play tennis on the clay courts or grab a bite to eat in the dining room. “It’s not a hyper-local club. People from all over the city are a part of it,” says Abramoff. “It’s there if you want to join it, but it’s not the end-all-be-all for the neighborhood.”
