Set in central Yuma, suburban Hacienda Estates is popular for its convenient location—close to shopping and dining, Ray Smucker Park, and Yuma Regional Medical Center, one of Yuma’s largest employers. “You’re right in the center of pretty much everything,” says Diana Arvizu, a local Realtor with Realty Executives Yuma and over 5 years of experience. The neighborhood's also popular with families of school-aged children, and local kids can often be seen walking the unshaded, sidewalk-lined streets to nearby Gary A. Knox Elementary and Kofa High. It's also commonplace to see swimming pools and low-water landscaping here, as the area's summer temperatures regularly top 90 degrees.
Yuma is a hotspot for birdwatching, particularly in the winter months.

Ranch-style homes along sidewalk-lined streets
Set along sidewalk-lined streets dotted with the occasional palm tree, most of Hacienda Estates’ homes are late 20th-century ranch-style with three to four bedrooms. “You’re typically going to have smaller homes here, and that’s always going to lower the price a little bit," Arvizu says. "Some of the houses will need a little work done.” Most lots are 6,000 to 7,000 square feet, which is average in Yuma; landscaping is a drought-tolerant mix of desert plantings, concrete courtyards and packed gravel. Most homes have tan or white stucco exteriors, concrete-paved driveways and attached carports; homes that have been remodeled often include attached garages and swimming pools. Prices range from $200,000 to $300,000, depending on a home's size and renovations. “Sometimes investors buy homes here, then flip them or rent them for a bit,” Loroña says.

Living next to Ray Smucker Park
“There’s plenty of kid-friendly parks here, and Smucker Park is one of the prettiest, in my opinion," Arvizu says. The 15-acre Ray Smucker Park borders Hacienda Estates to the east, and is lined with cypress trees. “There’s a big playground, so there’s definitely lots of children with parents, people with their dogs, and the track has workout machines you can use,” Loroña says. The park is circled by the paved, 1-mile Smucker Park Loop, which is popular for a morning jog or a walk with the dog. Other nearby parks within a mile of Hacienda Estates include Victoria Meadows Park, which offers a covered playground and picnic tables, and Yuma Valley Park, popular for its soccer fields, where local games and practices are held.

Shopping and dining along West 24th Street
Shopping and dining is within a mile along West 24th Street, the neighborhood’s northern border. Locals can pick up groceries at Walmart or Albertsons, coffee at Starbucks, and a bite to eat at national chains like Panda Express and Del Taco. For a casual lunch or dinner, Arvizu recommends The Chile Pepper, known for their authentic Mexican burritos with homemade tortillas; they also serve craft cocktails with a Mexican twist, like the Northside Bloody Maria with pineapple/jalapeño tequila and house salsa. Locals might also pick up fresh baked goods from Goldsboro Bakery, or head to Brewers Restaurant and Sports Bar to watch the game with a locally brewed craft beer.

Community events are held throughout the year in downtown Yuma, about 5 miles north. January sees the annual Yuma Medjool Date Festival, when date growers from all over Yuma County come to show off their date-inspired recipes, including deep-fried dates, date milkshakes and even date burgers; there’s also live music and occasional celebrity chef appearances. During November's three-day Colorado River Crossing Balloon Festival, colorful hot air balloons take off in mass ascensions toward the Sonoran Desert skies.
